Lerners is seeking a Law Clerk to support our Dispute Resolution Advocacy (also known as our commercial litigation practice) practice group in the Toronto, Ontario office. This is an 18-month contract with the possibility of an extension. The ideal candidate will have over eight (8) years of experience working in a similar position. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of three (3) days in office or as required.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage client files throughout their lifecycle, ensuring documents are accurately saved, organized, and maintained in accordance with firm protocols.
- Apply sound judgment and file knowledge to anticipate next steps and proactively identify potential issues or risks.
- Implement and maintain an effective bring-forward (BF) system in ACL to ensure timely follow-up, milestone reporting, and tracking of deadlines and commitments.
- Communicate with clients to obtain documents and information required for file progression.
- Draft correspondence, including emails, pleadings, legal documents, and reporting letters.
- Receive, organize, and review client documents.
- Coordinate with the eDiscovery team to ensure documents are scanned, loaded, and coded in Relativity.
- Review and code documents within Relativity and assist with the production of Affidavits of Documents and related materials.
- Schedule Examinations for Discovery and prepare and serve Notices of Examination.
- Summarize transcripts and work with clients to prepare responses to undertakings.
- Compile, prepare, serve, and file pleadings, motion records, application records, briefs, trial records, bookmarked PDFs, and other court materials.
- Assist with all aspects of trial preparation.
- Draft Costs Outlines and Bills of Costs.
- Meet with clients to obtain particulars regarding guardianship application files and other matters.
- Draft Notices of Application, Notices of Motion, Affidavits, Guardianship Plans, Management Plans, Judgments, Orders, and other guardianship-related documents, and coordinate capacity assessments.
Qualifications:
- Law Clerk Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience as a Law Clerk in a legal environment, preferably litigation.
- Experience with restructuring, bankruptcy and insolvency litigation are assets.
- Willingness to learn and develop an understanding of the appeals process.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures and processes.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented, with the ability to anticipate needs, take ownership of tasks, and exercise sound judgment.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a strong work ethic, a proactive approach, and a demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive tasks to completion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve administrative and procedural issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to consistently delivering high-quality work.
- Exercises discretion when handling confidential information and interacts professionally with clients, colleagues, and external parties.
- Comfortable working with technology in a remote or hybrid work environment.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using legal document management systems, legal research tools, and case management software.
- Experience with Relativity, Case Center, ACL, and iManage are considered an asset.
