8:30am to 4:30pm / Thursday and Friday
Pay Grade D ($27.88 to $29.83 per hour)
Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a school of students, faculty, thinkers and makers unlike any other. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing daily maintenance operations for the University. The Maintenance Technician will receive direct instruction from the General Manager, Facilities regarding daily operations or planned and unplanned works as well as being assigned daily tasks via the interactive Help Desk System. The Maintenance Technician works collaboratively with the Materials Handler to ensure the highest levels of service across the University.
Some Typical Duties:

Works collaboratively with the General Manager, Help Desk, Service Provider, staff, students, faculty, and other stakeholders to ensure daily operations across the University are met and provides constant feedback between Facilities and those affected by works.

Communicates via the Help Desk System to provide notifications and updates on works.

Assists in the movement and reinstatement of furniture and fixtures, including installing shelves, hanging artwork, and signage.

Performs minor maintenance and repairs, replaces parts, and changes and installs new or replacement equipment: Surveys assigned work area to determine maintenance and repair needs; Prepares cost estimate for repair and maintenance work for review; Consults with the Service Provider for alternate cost estimates; Provides recommendation to General Manager; Prepares purchase requisitions; Inspects work performed by Service Provider for compliance with agreement.;Promptly informs General Manager of maintenance and repairs which cannot immediately be carried out.

Works collaboratively with Facilities team members to ensure Creative Activity installations and restoration adhere to Service Provider standards.

Conducts work in compliance with established OH+S and WHMIS regulations.

Keeps up to date equipment lists and log books, and provides written reports (including scope of work and repair estimates) as required.

Responsible for maintaining adequate levels of parts and supplies by advising General Manager of stock levels and purchasing authorized materials.

Responsible for maintaining an Emily Carr equipment, tools, and parts inventory and inspection log and ensuring that they are moved in a safe and effective manner.

Assists in room set up and tear down for external bookings.

Performs routine classroom inspection to ensure space and equipment is clean and maintained.

Maintains currency in field by attending relevant professional development and trade related courses.

Participates as an active member on the OH+S Committee, Graduation Committee, and Fire Safety Committee.

Provides back up coverage for the Materials Handler in the event of busy periods or staff shortages.

Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
-
Grade 12 Completion.
-
Minimum three years’ experience in Facilities Engineering, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
-
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate required.
-
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence required.
-
Forklift and SkyJack Certification required.
