BC Housing is a provincial Crown Corporation that develops, manages and administers a wide range of subsidized housing options for those most in need across the province to address critical gaps across the housing continuum ranging from emergency shelter through to rent assistance in the private market and affordable home ownership. DATABASE MANAGER:
$96,964 - $114, 075 (Annually)
Reporting to the Manager, Business Application Services, the Database Manager is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day and on-going operations of Enterprise-wide corporate databases and application servers. The position is responsible for managing and administering database environments, including ensuring database optimization, consistency, and integrity, that database design and configuration adhere to principles of sound database architecture(s), the security context of database activities is consistent with the needs of the organization, and making and implementing recommendations for achieving these results. The position also assists in providing support for mission critical applications such as ERP and other database driven applications, including the corporate Human Resources/Payroll system. The position is responsible for ensuring documentation is available for all databases and application servers and for performing help desk, network administration, programming, and management of small IT projects as required.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Degree or diploma in Information Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Considerable experience supporting mission-critical corporate enterprise databases such as ERP, CRM, ECM, HR and Payroll; programming in a variety of languages; and using a Systems Development lifecycle, preferably with a structured methodology.
- Strong experience in database administration; producing extensive system documentation; gathering user requirements; and managing systems projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Minimum two years experience within an Oracle and MS SQL Server environment, specifically with:
- Extensive knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL.
- Proficiency in understanding data models and mapping data source/target.
- Working knowledge of Discoverer administration.
- Familiarity with the Oracle Developer Suite (Forms and Reports).
- Working experience supporting J2EE application servers including Oracle Application Server and Weblogic.
- Extensive knowledge of database administration activities including monitoring, storage utilization management, performance tuning, networking, backup and recovery.
- Practical knowledge planning for disaster and implementing recovery strategy.
- Minimum two years experience:
- Programming in a variety of languages.
- Supporting corporate enterprise databases and applications servers relating to ERP, CRM, ECM & Human Resources/Payroll systems.
- Familiarity with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server technologies and tools including:
- Oracle Enterprise Manager / Grid Control.
- Microsft SQL Server Client and Management tools.
- Oracle RMAN.
- Oracle Data Guard.
- SQL*Plus, SQL Loader, Import & Export.
- Discoverer Desktop / Administrator.
- Real Application Clusters and Cluster-ware.
- Oracle Application Server or WebLogic.
- Knowledge of web technologies and development tools (ie., HTML, JavaScript, J2EE, XML).
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office 2003 applications including Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Project and Visio.
- Proficiency in operating systems including Windows, UNIX and LINUX .
- Ability to create and update technical and user manual documentation.
- Ability to work effectively within a team of made up of business users and technical analysts.
- Ability to generate and articulate new ideas and adapt effectively to new technologies.
- Ability to excel working under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with matters of a confidential nature.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Flexibility in supporting systems outside of core business hours, including weekends and evenings as required.
