The Job

Fraser Direct is seeking a Shipping Associate to join our team and support Shipping department. You will assist with the day-to-day preparation of outbound shipments. In this role you will focus on data entry of shipment details for both parcel (courier) shipments and palletized (LTL/FTL) shipments and physically verifying and preparing all shipments for pick-up. This is a hands-on role working with a wide variety of clients, carriers, consignees, and their various shipping requirements.

The Duties

  • Accurate and efficient processing of parcels and LTL shipments through computerized shipping system.
  • Assess packages and report damages.
  • Match pieces on BOL to completed work log.
  • Ensure correct shipment details and numbers are keyed into the computer system.
  • Correct client selected;
  • Manifesting to the correct consignee;
  • Manifests are accurate;
  • Cubing process is understood;
  • Ensure correct shipping rates are applied to all parcels (critical), e.g. cubing for light or oddly shaped items (dimensional weight shipments)
  • Scan and weigh products on shipping line – ensure speed, parcel sequence, and order type are correct.
  • Work with forklifts to coordinate the movement of pallets/shipments as needed in staging area.
  • Verify, prepare and stage pallets for shipment pick-up:
  • Perform final quality check of entire order for accuracy;
  • Building/rebuild pallets properly and safely for transit;
  • Wrap pallets;
  • Add correct pallet tags, order labels, compliance labels;
  • Mark pallets “ready to ship” once complete and mark with correct carrier;
  • Stage complete shipment (all pallets) together in the staging lanes, ensuring pallets are neat, organized, well labeled, and easily identified for carrier pick-up.
  • Load outbound shipments onto carrier trucks, and ensuring:
  • Outgoing BOLs are signed by carrier picking-up;
  • All required paperwork (e.g. customs paperwork, invoice/packing list) accompanies each shipment.
  • Complete daily work log with correct and complete details.
  • Perform dock inspection throughout the day and at end of shift to ensure no shipments or pallets left unaccounted for.
  • Follow instructions given by the Supervisor and/or Team Leader, who will determine priorities.
  • Deliver quality control as specified in client and company policies and procedures.
  • Required to follow company and client procedures and specifications.
  • Support and follow all Health & Safety regulations. Where possible, correct unsafe or hazardous conditions and report to TL, Supervisor, Warehouse Manager or a Health & Safety Committee member.
  • Follow and maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • All other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential to Have:

  • 1-3 years of shipping department and Counterbalance Forklift experience.
  • Prior knowledge of Shipping documentation (i.e. BOLs)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Superior data entry and keying skills on a computer, with great accuracy
  • Comprehension of written documentation
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with RF scanner an asset
  • Attention to detail and basic mathematical skills (counting with accuracy)
  • Able to work independently and complete tasks with sense of urgency
  • Effective organization, planning and time management skills; must be able to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines
  • Effective listening skills, willing and able to take direction

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent work experience

REQUIRED TRAINING:

  • Applicable SOP documentation and procedures
  • All applicable Occupational Safety and Health Regulations
  • Fraser Direct specific training for designated position

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB:

  • Warehouse Environment, CSA-approved safety shoes required
  • Ability to lift or move heavy objects (up to 30- 50lb)
  • Ability to stand, bend, and walk around throughout the day
