ECHO DENE SCHOOL Fort Liard, Northwest Territories The Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications for the position of English Language Arts Teacher, Humanities Teacher Grades 7 to 12 Term Position for One Year

(with extension to Indeterminate in the following year)

Open until filled. Fort Liard is nicknamed "Tropics of the North" because of its long, warm summers and winter chinooks. Only 23 km north of the BC/NT border, Fort Liard is only two hours north of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, and a short drive along the Alaska Highway to Stone Mountain, Muncho Lake and Liard Hot Springs Provincial Parks. Echo Dene School is a JK-12 school located on the traditional territory of Acho Dene Koe First Nation. Echo Dene School has approximately one hundred twenty students from JK-12. Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications from certified teachers who are dedicated to teaching and have experience and/or interest in the cultural, linguistic and traditional heritage of the Dene. The teacher will offer a holistic, culturally relevant program that supports the language and cultural heritage of the students and addresses the needs of all students who may have learning challenges in multi-grade classes. Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Northwest Territories Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience in teaching multigrade and combined grade classes in JK-12
  • Ability to work as a team member in planning, delivery and assessment of programs and students.
  • An understanding of how to use Universal Design for Learning to ensure all young people are engaged and learning every day.
  • Experience providing culturally relevant programming
  • Experience with BC Curriculum is considered an asset
  • Experience teaching ELA is considered an asset
  • Experience teaching Humanities is considered an asset
