About the role

On behalf of the Chief and Council, the Executive Director (Band Manager) is responsible for the overall administration and management of the Band Office and Band-owned businesses. The Executive Director ensures the effective and efficient delivery of all funded programs and services, while providing strong leadership and direction to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.This role requires a visionary leader with exceptional administrative, financial, and organizational skills who is committed to supporting the citizens and advancing the goals of Magnetawan First Nation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of all Band Administration Offices and Band businesses.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff across multiple program and service areas.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of programs and services in accordance with funding agreements, policies, and citizenship needs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to guide all aspects of Band administration.
  • Prepare budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure sound financial management practices.
  • Engage in strategic planning and program development to support the long-term vision of citizenship
  • Research funding opportunities, prepare proposals, and secure resources to expand services and programs.
  • Foster positive relationships with government representatives, First Nation organizations, funding agencies, and community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to Chief and Council.

Education & Professional Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of senior management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and budget management.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree in a related discipline and equivalent relevant work experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in strategic planning, program development, and policy creation.
  • Excellent knowledge of human resource management, including planning, administration, and staff development.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with government agencies, funding bodies, and community members.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Proven success in preparing funding proposals and securing external resources.
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skilled in problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making.

KNOWLEDGE BASE

  • In-depth understanding of federal and provincial legislation relevant to First Nations administration, including but not limited to:
  • Federal Employment Standards
  • Human Rights
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Charities and Taxation
  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Employment Insurance (EI), and health coverage
  • Knowledge of First Nations governance, community development, and funding frameworks is an asset.
