About the role

We are looking for a highly self-motivated, talented and detail-oriented Business Analyst to join our Product team in Toronto. Reporting to the Director, Innovation and Digital Services, the Business Analyst position plays a key role in the insurance team comprised of full stack developers, quality assurance analysts, and product managers to implement best-in-class digital insurance products. The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with stakeholders from various departments to solicit and manage product requirements.

Responsibilities of the Business Analyst will include but not be limited to:

Elicit, analyze, specify, and validate the business needs of stakeholders. Work closely with the product team to determine project scope in accordance with the product vision and prioritize the backlog. Use various requirements gathering methods to get all the information for a given requirement. Identify and establish scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics. Follow the requirement gathering processes in place and recommend improvements where needed. Participate in the QA and UAT of implemented solutions to ensure features and functions have been enabled and optimized. Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards. Utilize standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications, converting conceptual requirements into clear functional requirements understandable by everyone on the team. Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to the scrum team. Manage and track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary. Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements verbally or through written documentation to scrum team, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood. Maintain documentation for all the products for as-is specifications to be referenced by the team.

Qualifications & Skills:

Ability to exercise independent judgment and act on it Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills Proficiency in SQL is preferred Highly self-motivated and directed Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment Demonstrated project management skills and project management software skills, including planning, organizing, and managing resources

Education & Experience:

College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, finance, or information systems 5+ years of work experience (Experience in P&C insurance industry is preferred) Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development
