About the role

Job Description

IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference.  IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

The Data Center Site Manager will lead all day-to-day operations and serves as the technical authority on site, responsible for understanding how critical systems work together and ensuring teams operate them to standard.

This is not a hands-on engineering role, but it does require sufficient technical depth to:

  • Make informed operational decisions
  • Challenge and guide technical teams and vendors
  • Lead incident response and root-cause analysis
  • Ensure maintenance and operational practices align with system design, risk tolerances and SLA

The role balances technical oversight, people leadership, safety, and communication across the site and in a leadership capacity.

While direct data center experience is beneficial, we are equally open to leaders from mission-critical environments such as oil & gas, hospitals, utilities, or industrial facilities.

Job Requirements

  • Required

    • Experience leading operations in mission-critical or industrial environments (data centers, oil & gas, utilities, hospitals, manufacturing, etc.)
    • Proven people leadership experience with technical or facilities-based teams
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to report clearly and lead confidently
    • Sufficient technical understanding to manage electrical, mechanical, and facilities systems at a high level
  • Preferred

    • Data center or critical facilities experience
    • Background in electrical, mechanical, facilities, or technical operations
    • Exposure to regulated or safety-focused environments

Job Responsibilities

Site & Technical Leadership

  • Act as the senior technical and operational leader for the site’s 24/7 operations
  • Provide clear direction to technical, cloud support, electrical, mechanical and maintenance teams
  • Translate technical issues into operational and business impacts for leadership
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical and infrastructure issues
  • Working with the project team, support the expansion of the facility

Critical Infrastructure Oversight

  • Oversee the operation of electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including:
    • Power distribution and backup systems
    • Cooling and environmental systems
    • Building management and monitoring systems
  • Ensure infrastructure operates within design parameters, risk tolerances and SLA requirement
  • Review and approve maintenance strategies, procedures, and schedules
  • Lead technical readiness for equipment installs, upgrades, and capacity changes

Incident Management & Risk

  • Lead site-level response to technical incidents, outages, or abnormal conditions
  • Direct root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Identify systemic risks and reliability concerns across infrastructure and operations
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and shared

People Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, coach, and develop multi-disciplinary technical and facilities teams
  • Promote a strong culture of technical excellence, safety, accountability, and teamwork
  • Act as the face of the site, setting expectations through visible leadership
  • Ensure clear shift coverage and operational ownership

Safety, Compliance & Governance

  • Operate within environments with strong safety and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure safe work practices across all site technical, electrical and mechanical operations
  • Support compliance audits, inspections, and internal governance standards
  • Champion safety leadership (without being a dedicated Safety Officer)

Communication & Reporting

  • Provide structured reporting on:
    • Site performance and uptime
    • Maintenance activities and risks
    • Technical issues and incident trends
  • Communicate clearly with regional leadership and technical stakeholders
  • Ensure operational documentation and procedures remain accurate and current
