About the Opportunity

Join our dynamic team as a Senior Specialist, Cloud and Infrastructure, where you'll drive the management, optimization, and security of our Azure environment and global infrastructure. This is a remote position located within Canada, however some travel to sites across North America will be required.

Reporting directly to the Director, Cloud Integration and Azure Applications, this role is pivotal in managing Azure environments, providing IT infrastructure support in both cloud and on-prem environment. You will also play a key role in data integration, analytics support, and cybersecurity monitoring.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Azure Infrastructure and Data Analytics (50%)

  • Manage the Azure environment on a day-to-day basis (upgrades, security patching, backup, maintenance and monitoring).
  • Serve as the primary contact for Azure deployments, including planning, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Optimize and maintain Azure infrastructure (virtual machines, storage, networking, and solutions).
  • Oversee data integration, ensuring connectivity between on-premises systems, cloud resources, and third-party services.
  • Manage Azure backup and restore processes for data integrity and availability.
  • Conduct capacity planning, forecasting resource needs, scaling infrastructure, and managing costs using Azure tools (Cost Management, Advisor).
  • Deploy and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
  • Monitor Azure environments with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights to resolve issues proactively.
  • Implement Azure security best practices, including RBAC, encryption, and compliance.
  • Support data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytics platforms (PowerBI, PowerApps, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory).
  • Maintain documentation for Azure architectures, configurations, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with third-party partners and consultants for escalations and new initiatives.
  • Stay current with Azure advancements to recommend scalable and resilient solutions.

Global Infrastructure Support (25%)

  • Act as the primary escalation point for mine site IT virtual infrastructure issues (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Manage and optimize enterprise firewalls (Fortigate and Palo Alto) in both Azure and on-prem environments.
  • Monitor firewall performance metrics (throughput, latency, resource utilization) using built-in tools and implement advanced security configurations (IPS, VPN configurations, threat intelligence, User-ID, FSSO).
  • Lead or support firewall deployments, configuration reviews, and software version upgrades.
  • Identify infrastructure bottlenecks and recommend hardware/software upgrades.
  • Resolve complex firewall issues with root cause analysis.
  • Support Cisco core switch configuration at mine sites for optimal performance.

Cybersecurity Monitoring and Support (25%)

  • Work with the Cybersecurity Operations Manager to monitor, detect and respond to security incidents.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards through audits, reporting, and remediation.
  • Continuously improve the company’s security posture through proactive threat detection and process enhancement.
  • Monitor and maintain cybersecurity tools and platform such as Crowdstrike, Microsoft Sentinel SIEM, Zabbix, Lansweeper and Nessus.
  • Conducting regular vulnerability assessments and assisting in risk remediation plans.
  • Contribute to security awareness initiatives and enforce cybersecurity policies across the organization.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience/certifications).
  • 5+ years experience with Azure cloud services, including VMs, storage solutions, and networking.
  • Knowledge of Azure best practices, including identity and access management, network security and compliance frameworks.
  • Extensive experience with Azure infrastructure design, deployment, optimization, and data integration.
  • Strong knowledge of virtual infrastructure (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Proven experience with enterprise firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto).
  • Advanced hands-on experience on Cisco switches.
  • Experience with Azure data analytics tools and platforms (PowerBI, PowerApps, Data Factory, Synapse).
  • Proficiency with cybersecurity tools (Crowdstrike, Sentinel SIEM, Zabbix, Lansweeper, Nessus).
  • Deep understanding of Azure services, resource management, networking, and cost control.
  • Proficient in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Azure CLI, etc.).
  • Strong grasp of networking and firewall concepts, VPNs, NAT, IPS/IDS, and traffic shaping, subnets, VPN gateways.
  • Familiarity with network and system monitoring tools and alert management.
  • Ability to interpret and respond to cybersecurity indicators and events.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and automation.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in parallel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to mine sites occasionally for project rollouts or critical incidents.
