Assistant Manager, Construction
Schedule
5on 2off, Mondays to Fridays, 8 hours per shift
Overtime Eligibility
Overtime eligible
Key Responsibilities
Planning Phase
· Assist in developing Construction Work Packages, including:
- Logistics planning, site layouts, and equipment staging.
- Installation schedules and safety/environmental plans.
· Support contractor procurement, selection, and pre-mobilization.
· Ensure contractors submit required safety plans, training records, and permits.
· Identify contract financial controls to manage contractor performance.
Execution Phase
· Drive safe, on-schedule execution while enforcing site safety policies.
· Conduct shift turnover meetings, coordinating with Operations and contractors.
· Resolve/escalate field issues to maintain progress.
· Ensure contractor participation in safety audits and program reviews.
· Manage labor conflicts between contractors and unionized workers.
· Verify daily manpower and contractor invoicing accuracy.
· Track and report schedule progress to the Assistant Manager, Construction.
· Maintain change order logs for PMO review.
Turnover & Commissioning
· Punch List Management: Ensure timely completion of contractor deliverables.
· System Readiness Checks: Verify proper installation and testing of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
· Turnover Meetings: Facilitate handover to Maintenance with clear expectations.
· Functional & Witness Testing: Coordinate with third-party inspectors.
· Unit Cleanliness: Ensure site is clean before contractor demobilization.
· Lessons Learned: Provide feedback on contractor performance for future projects
Qualifications and Skills
Education
Relevant trade, technologist, or engineering certification, or demonstrate an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Experience
3-5 years of experience in bulk loading/unloading operations.
Skills
· Strong leadership with technical expertise in construction.
· Schedule-driven mindset with ability to track progress in Primavera.
· Effective communicator, able to align teams toward common goals.
· Change management discipline, adhering to defined processes.
· Problem-solving skills to resolve field conflicts efficiently.
