The Ministry of Natural Resources, Science and Research Branch and the Fish and Wildlife Branch is seeking a qualified professional with knowledge and experience in health and safety to provide technical expertise to the branch.

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • lead the Science and Research Branch and Fish and Wildlife Branch implementation of provincial health and safety legislation, standards and initiatives
  • audit, deliver, develop and report on appropriate performance measures
  • lead and conduct engagement and provide advice and training to support the implementation of new initiatives in the branches province-wide

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Technical expertise:

  • knowledge of Ontario's Health and Safety objectives, mandates, legislation/regulations and operational delivery to develop/implement projects
  • knowledge of health and safety, and emergency management planning requirements to develop and implement workplace emergency plans and continuity of operation plans

Project planning and financial management:

  • knowledge of project planning, implementation, management and evaluation principles and methodologies in order to lead program delivery plans for health and safety, emergency management, wellness and respectful workplace initiatives
  • knowledge of financial management, including budget preparation, procurement, analysis and monitoring to support program/project implementation and ongoing operations

Interpersonal and communication skills:

  • relationship management and negotiation skills to establish networks, work cooperatively and gain support for policy and program initiatives
  • ability to deliver effective presentations and provide issues management advice, and to explain policy or program recommendations to ministry management
  • communication skills to prepare, update and review proposals, briefing notes and other executive documentation that is highly sensitive in nature

Analytical and evaluation skills:

  • analytical and evaluative skills to critically evaluate programs; develop policy and implementation plans; and to identify business needs and resolve planning/management issues

Computer proficiency:

  • proficiency with common office productivity software, such as email, internet, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications to effectively prepare presentations, correspondence, reports; conduct research and analysis, and share information
