About the role
SBLR is looking for a full-time, permanent, Tax Associate with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a public accounting environment to join our growing team. In this position, the candidate will work directly with senior staff to provide tax support, while delivering an exceptional level of client service. The candidate’s role will include tax compliance and tax planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare, review, and advise on complex personal, corporate, trust, and GST/HST tax returns.

Prepare specialty tax returns and forms (deceased returns, estate returns, filings for non-residents, capital dividend elections, rollover elections, etc.)
-
Communicate with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on behalf of our clients including responding to review and audit inquiries.

Prepare notice of objections and voluntary disclosures.

Assist with research, analysis, and implementation of tax planning strategies for various clients.

Demonstrate strong tax technical knowledge and the ability to analyze a wide variety of tax issues, through research and presenting options and recommendations.

Stay up to date with current tax rules and regulations, ensuring compliance and proactive client advice.
QUALIFICATIONS:

CPA Designation
-
CPA In-Depth Tax Course or a Master of Tax completed (obtained or in the process of obtaining)

Minimum 2-3 years of dedicated tax experience in public practice

Comprehensive understanding of tax law/rules and implications, with a strong focus on tax planning

Experience with owner-managed businesses (considered an asset).
EXCELLENT COMPUTER SKILLS & USE OF THE FOLLOWING SOFTWARE:

Microsoft Office (strong proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook)

CCH iFirm Taxprep (Personal, Corporate, Trust, and Forms)

CCH or similar tax research software
