About the role

ABOUT THE ROLE

Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated individual with a positive attitude to fill the position of Custodian. This position will play a pivotal role in maintaining a clean, safe environment for staff and visitors. The incumbent will perform custodial duties to ensure that the school is maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner. This is a full-time position and will work under the supervision of the Custodian Team Lead. This position is based in Fort McKay, AB. This schedule will be Monday to Friday - 2:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.

  • Disinfect high contact surfaces with appropriate cleaners.

  • Gather and empty garbage at designated locations ensuring security away from rodents and larger animals.

  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.

  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.

  • Notify supervisor concerning the need for any repairs.

  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning duties.

  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.

  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.

  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.

  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.

  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Past experience as a custodian or similar role

  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets

  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, tools, supplies, and techniques

  • Able to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time

  • Ability to follow safety precautions involved with the work assigned

  • Must be physically capable to perform duties assigned to job, including standing, sitting, moving, squatting, walking, climbing, pulling/pushing, and lifting

  • Ability to handle janitorial equipment and tools

  • Ability to prioritize and focus on required tasks

  • Ability to work independently with integrity

  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is an asset.

  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required.

  • Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta

  • Must be willing to start as soon as possible
