About the role

North Battleford, SK

Pattison Media is looking for the next ‘legend in the making’ to be the voice of Junior ‘A’ hockey action in Saskatchewan for the Battlefords North Stars.

We’re looking for someone with a unique and energetic voice who is capable of multitasking throughout the game. What will set you apart is the ability to guide our audience through the game action while continually setting the scene through compelling stories, so our listeners become invested in the outcome and the players.

The successful candidate must be able to travel with the team (sometimes for an extended period of time) throughout the regular and post season.

When you’re not in the rink, you’ll be writing breaking and daily general news stories for web and radio as part of our provincial news team – with a focus on the Battlefords and Meadow Lake areas. Reporters are also occasionally required to write featured commercial content.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and executing radio play-by-play for the Battlefords North Stars home and away games.
  • Gathering and submitting photos, videos and interview audio clips for the newsroom and our social media channels whether that be for news or sports.
  • General news reporting, writing and voicing radio news stories.
  • Covering other events as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in broadcast journalism or minimum 6 months of sports broadcasting experience
  • Excellent play-by-play skills and in-depth knowledge of the sport
  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines
  • Professional appearance, valid driver’s license
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
