Overview
The Supervisor, Financial Planning and Analysis reports to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis for the technical analysis and forecasting of financial transactions. The Supervisor will be responsible for leading and motivating a team of analysts.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for preparing and monitoring the City's budgets and providing analytical support to all levels of the organization.
- Identify programming needs, and trends.
- Responsible for preparing five year financial plans.
- Reviewing and reconciling operating activity reports and year-end audit papers.
- Responsible for trend analysis and interpretation of data to support decision making.
- Assist with financial system upgrades, troubleshooting and implement and recommend new procedures.
- Assist with other financial accounting matters, as required.
- Provide input into staff performance reviews.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Able to communicate effectively and clearly, provide technical financial training sessions to all staff on operating, capital and utility budgeting policies and procedures.
- Must be able to prepare analytical, comprehensive, target focused written and verbal reports suitable for external and internal audiences.
- Experience in budgeting, financial and data analysis, business process reengineering and dashboard creation.
- Have working knowledge of CICA Handbook Public Sector Accounting Board standards, General Accepting Accounting Principles, City Policy, fund accounting and accounting double entry principles.
- Excellent knowledge of large ERP system such as PeopleSoft.
- Excellent knowledge of BI tool such as TIBCO.
- Ability to quickly process information and make decisions.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal record check for the business sector.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and a designation from a recognized accounting program is required (CA, CPA, CGA or CMA). Over five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above is required. A minimum of two years of full time supervisory experience is required.
Working Conditions:
Duties are performed in an office environment.
