OVERVIEW
Lauren Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Engineering for high-voltage utility projects. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and execution of substation, transmission line, and distribution system projects. This role involves preparing studies, layouts, equipment specifications, and electrical system designs that align with utility standards, client requirements, and applicable codes.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients to gather technical information, develop detailed designs, and support the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of medium to large-scale power projects.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Prepare engineering deliverables such as single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, grounding and lighting designs, and cable schedules.

Conduct power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination).

Support the design of substations, switching stations, and transmission/distribution systems (4kV to 500kV).

Develop electrical specifications, equipment data sheets, and material lists.
-
Support the selection and application of major electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, switchgear, protective relays, SCADA, VFDs, etc.).

Review vendor technical documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements.
-
Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, and protection/control engineers to ensure integrated designs.
-
Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
-
Assist in preparing cost estimates, proposals, and project schedules.
-
Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (CEC, IEEE, CSA, NESC, NERC, and utility-specific requirements).

Work directly with clients on project-related issues and provide updates on design progress.

Mentor and provide direction to drafting personnel and junior engineers as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

2–5 years of formal training or project experience in high-voltage transmission and distribution engineering, utility, or EPCM projects.

Experience with PLS-CADD and transmission line design is a strong asset.
-
Licensed or eligible for registration as an EIT with EGBC or APEGA (dual registration an asset).
-
Knowledge of power system protection, control, and relay coordination.
-
Familiarity with utility practices and standards for transmission and distribution systems..
SKILLS
-
Transmission and distribution design experience are essential.

Strong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry practices (CEC, CSA, IEEE, NESC, etc.).

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work on several projects simultaneously.

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, and clients.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
-
Familiarity with project execution phases, including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Position Details:
- This is an in-office role based in Kelowna, BC
- Compensation range: $35–55/hour, depending on experience and education.
