About the Role

As Retail Insights & Category Strategy Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping of SNDL's cannabis retail strategy across our network of 230+ Value Buds and Spiritleaf stores. Reporting to the Senior Director, Category Strategy, you’ll partner closely with Category Managers and cross-functional teams to unlock deeper understanding of business performance, identify growth opportunities, and enable data-driven category management.

This a hybrid role (3 days in-office per week) based out of SNDL's Toronto office (49 Spadina Ave).

Key Responsibilities

  • Business insights and strategic analysis (50%)
    • Conduct deep dives across a variety of data sources (e.g., transactional, customer loyalty, third-party) to explain business drivers and identify trends
    • Monitor market data and competitive dynamics to inform strategic positioning and uncover whitespace opportunities
    • Develop business cases for strategic opportunities (e.g., major promotions, loyalty program investment, innovation product launch) to enable effective leadership decision making
  • Performance reporting (30%)
    • Produce recurring (e.g., weekly sales and margin, monthly business review) and ad hoc reporting for a variety of audiences (ranging from functional teams to leadership) to elicit business performance and associated drivers
    • Ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with business needs
    • Collaborate with Technology/BI teams to define reporting requirements, test new data tools, and drive adoption by business teams
  • Category strategy support and enablement (20%)
    • Establish and monitor core (e.g., sales, margin) and emergent (e.g., promo ROI, category development index) category performance KPIs
    • Translate complex data into compelling stories and actionable insights to influence category decision making (e.g., pricing, promotions, assortment)
    • Support the development and implementation of category strategy frameworks (e.g., store-level pricing and assortment optimization)

Key Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience. You have at least 3-5 years of experience working in an insights, analytics, and/or strategy-focused role in a retail, category, and/or merchandising context
  • Exceptional data fluency, Excel skills, and an analytical mindset. Strong strategies are grounded in data-led insights and you'll be expected to extract, analyze, and summarize data from a variety of data sources
  • Financial acumen. You understand financial metrics and how they relate to retail performance
  • Customer focused. Customers are core to what we do
  • Comfort thinking critically and strategically. You will tackle complex and ambiguous customer and business problems in a constantly-evolving industry
  • Effective communication and synthesis skills. You will often be called upon to present your findings and recommendations. Comfort with storytelling and presenting will be key
  • Strong intangibles. Time management, problem-solving, critical thinking skills, detail orientation, and the ability to work independently come natural to you

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in cannabis, retail, and/or consumer-packaged goods (CPG)
  • Familiarity with using and building custom reporting in PowerBI
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and Dynamics 365
