Summary:

The Assistant Controller will report directly to the VP, Finance in the Finance Shared Services department of SJC, and will assist with all corporate finance and shared service operations, while working as a dynamic strategic partner with the leadership team and business operators. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for the strategic financial management and successful execution of all fiscal functions of St. Joseph Communications. You will help to establish financial accountability, corporate governance and compliance, as well as devise and implement business and financial strategies that increase shareholder value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the full accounting cycle; AP, AR, GL.
  • Manage month end, quarter end, and year end processes.
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and compliance reporting to Corporate, as well as other ad-hoc reports to Senior Leadership.
  • Oversee accounting functions, including but not limited to, review of journal entries, monthly accruals, balance sheet reconciliation, cash flow management, WIP, accounts payable, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
  • Provide support to accounts receivable - oversee monthly billings & revenue cycle and reconcile to forecast, including further analysis to margin expectations and reporting of certain KPIs.
  • Ensure Payroll is interfaced to the GL monthly and is accounted for reporting purposes versus budget and forecast, as well as identifying and following through on any gaps.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of the budget and monthly forecasts.
  • Consolidate annual budget and monthly forecasts for submission and prepare imports into the ERP system.
  • Prepare GST/HST filings and reporting for tax compliance.
  • Prepare supporting year-end working papers and provide support to Corporate in the annual audit, liaising with external auditors.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of ad hoc financial reports as requested by the operations group.
  • Assist with ensuring internal controls are in place and in compliance.
  • Assist with modification of new ERP/Accounting software, maintaining systems, and providing financial technical support to the Shared Services team.
  • Coach, develop, and guide accounting team members by answering questions and providing mentorship with the goal to achieving best practices and optimal output from them.
  • Provide additional support to the Controller and Accounting team with other tasks as required and

on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications:

  • Holds a CPA, CA designation with 4+ years of experience within mid to large diversified organizations
  • Strong analytical and technical skills (GAAP, Finance, Modelling)
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience with Netsuite ERP is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with many different departments & stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tight deadlines
  • A detail oriented and proactive self-starter, with a strong commitment to excellence
  • A team player who can work successfully with multi-functional teams
  • Demonstrated competence and maturity
