Primary Objective of the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst – External Reporting is responsible for Cargojet’s external reporting requirements. This includes preparation of financial statements and MD&A, liaison with PwC, development of accounting memos for complex transactions, and providing technical support to the Corporate Controller. The role requires strong technical knowledge of IFRS, accuracy, and the ability to manage reporting deadlines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, notes, schedules, and MD&A in compliance with IFRS, TSX listing requirements, and Canadian securities regulations.
- Coordinate all external financial reporting deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely filing of required documents.
- Act as the primary contact with PwC during quarterly reviews and the annual audit, managing information requests and resolving audit issues promptly.
- Research, draft, and implement accounting memos for complex and non-routine transactions (e.g., financing, leases, acquisitions, hedging) to ensure compliance with IFRS.
- Advise the Corporate Controller and senior finance management on technical accounting and disclosure requirements affecting external reporting.
- Maintain and update documentation for internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and disclosure controls and procedures (DC&P), ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare internal financial analyses (variance reports, budget vs. actual, forecast vs. actual) to support management and Board reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, IT, treasury, tax) to capture accurate financial data for external reporting.
- Support process improvements and automation in reporting, consolidation, and compliance processes.
- Provide other financial analyses and deliverables as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation required.
- 3–5 years of experience in external reporting or technical accounting at a public company, preferably TSX-listed, or equivalent experience with IFRS-reporting clients at a Big 4 firm.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and proven ability to prepare technical accounting papers.
- Experience working with auditors and external advisors.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, time-management, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage priorities and deadlines in a reporting environment.
- Experience with SAP or a similar ERP system is an asset.
