The WCB Alberta is currently on a multiyear journey to modernize and optimize our technology ecosystem that will achieve our strategic objectives and bolster innovation with a view into the future. As the trusted technology partner, essential to the fulfillment of WCB’s strategic objectives, the Business Technology Services (BTS) division works collaboratively and creatively with our partners, to provide secure, innovative technology and data solutions that position WCB Alberta as an industry leader in Worker’s Compensation.

Primary Focus:
In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, business leaders, and stakeholders to understand our strategic goals and translate them into robust architectural designs will provide technical leadership in system architecture, design principles, software development methodologies, and selection of information systems. You will utilize technology architecture principles and frameworks to ensure quality, uniformity, and sustainability throughout the WCB.
Here, you will have the opportunity to explore and experiment with the latest advancements in technology, such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation and cloud technologies. You will be at the forefront of technical innovation, working with a team of talented professionals to shape the future of our organization's technology initiatives.
Your IT Architect responsibilities:
- Engage with business groups, understand business requirements, and design solution architectures.
- Champion the use of an enterprise architecture framework and toolset.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technology trends and evaluate opportunities.
- Ensure that solutions are designed with core cybersecurity principles.
- Create and maintain reference architecture with standards and governance model.
- Participate in defining enterprise architecture standards and project documentation requirements.
- Lead solution ideas toward project initiation.
- Review and approve assigned application architecture and integration designs.
Your experience and skills:
- Proven experience as IT Architect - designing and implementing architectural solutions.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise-level architecture frameworks and methodologies.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies and their practical applications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to think strategically and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Relevant certifications or degrees in technology-related fields are a plus.
- Strong knowledge or hands-on experience with:
- Programing in one or more languages (Python, C#.NET, JavaScript, etc.)
- Enterprise IT infrastructure (server, storage, network, and systems management disciplines)
- Security protocols (TLS, SAML, OIDC, Oauth2, WS-Security, etc.)
- Databases technologies
- Container technologies
- Cloud services (Microsoft Azure, etc.)

Salary: $92,678 to $132,480 (includes Market Supplement; Salary Grade 13)
Final candidates for this position are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment. Successful candidate must reside in Alberta and be able to work in person in our Edmonton downtown (Calgary, Millard Health) office as required by their position.

Funded by employer premiums, we provide cost-effective disability and liability coverage for work-related injury and illness. We compensate workers for lost income and coordinate the health care and other services they need to recover after a workplace injury.
