POSITION PROFILE

Summary:
This manufacturing position is accountable for planning, organizing, and controlling all manufacturing activities and manufacturing processes necessary to support the delivery of the Phantom Experience to our customers.

This is accomplished by focusing on safety, quality (effectiveness) and productivity (efficiency). As a key member of the Phantom team, the Manufacturing Engineering will provide expertise in the achievement of corporate and department quality goals, consistently demonstrate, and encourage in others the organization’s core corporate values, and champion Phantom’s overall strategic vision.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the VP of Manufacturing. Other positions reporting to the VP of Manufacturing are Quality Manager and Production Manager.

Position Responsibilities:
(include but are not limited to, the following)

Safety

  • Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are always implemented and maintained.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the Safety Program, including development of written safe work instructions and completion of assigned safety tasks
  • Fulfill General duties of Employers (as set out in WCA and OHS Reg.)
  • Participate in incident investigations and investigate unsafe conditions and take corrective action

Human Resources

  • Maintain confidentiality when coming into contact with sensitive information
  • Provide on the job training, direction, feedback, career planning and educational support
  • Ensure adherence to HR (and Corporate) Policy
  • Participate in meetings or other communication channels with relevant departments regarding the resolution of ongoing challenges, implement new procedures or processes, or the develop new plans or designs

Manufacturing

Processes, Procedures & Instructions

  • Ensure manufacturing conforms to agreed requirements, processes deliver intended outputs, report on performance, identify opportunities for improvement, promote customer focus, and that the integrity of the management system is maintained when changes are planned and implemented.
  • Understand internal and external customer requirements to develop and optimize effective manufacturing processes
  • Analyze and design lean manufacturing systems to optimize space, equipment, material and personnel.
  • Assist in developing plant layout in planning rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations
  • Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies, equipment and applicable legislation
  • Determine procedures and work instructions needed based on issues related to compliance, importance, and performance.
  • Create assembly instructions for new products to be manufactured
  • Make certain all production commitments are met by ensuring functional and proper tooling, fixtures and jigs and working processes are employed in the factory
  • Executes PFMEA and DOE as required to ensure proper process implementation and optimization
  • Provide manufacturing training material and related training
  • Ensure key manufacturing processes are understood and consistently carried out
  • Adopt manufacturing and maintenance best-practices as appropriate

Specifications

  • Ensure specifications are met for new and existing processes, products, and services

New & Revised Production Development & Launch

  • Support all current and new product introductions.
  • Develop, test and validate manufacturing processes

Identification and Traceability

  • Develop, implement and maintain unique identification of products (and services) when necessary to ensure conformity and when traceability is a requirement

Monitoring and Measurement

  • Develop, implement and maintain calibration / verification program
  • Perform studies and records time, motion, methods and speed involved in performance of production and other worker operations to establish standard production rates and to improve efficiencies

Corrective Action

  • Analyze internal and external quality data (customer feedback, complaints, quality escapes) and initiate effective manufacturing corrective actions to minimize adverse effects

Auditing / Management Review

  • Audit and report on the effectiveness of the manufacturing and maintenance management system

General

  • Support supply chain in the establishment of vendor assessments (ensuring vendors are manufacturing product according to specifications) and inspection plans and methods
  • Support engineering in the adoption of best practices / processes
  • Provide input to product development during the design phase of new products, assess process requirements and provide guidance
  • Provide project management for site initiatives including but not limited to NPI and continuous improvement projects
  • Participate in job-related training programs or associated personal development initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement teams
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

**Position Requirements:**General:

Communication

  • A skilled communicator with proficiency in all four English language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening
  • Mature, confident and comfortable in dealing with a variety of contacts at all levels
  • A keen understanding and respect of the need to maintain confidentiality when coming into contact with sensitive information
  • Read, analyze, and interpret common industrial, manufacturing and technical procedures, professional journals, schematics, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints

Computer Skills

  • Windows operating system and intermediate typing skills required
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs with MS Excel at an advanced level
  • Proficient use of Solid Works / AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with other software programs (such MS Project, Minitab, calibration management, computerized maintenance management software, ERP…) considered an asset

Physical Requirements

  • Sight: Vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for observation, inspection, preparing documents, etc.. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing: Hearing correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, etc.. Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of telephones for communication is essential.
  • Touch: Use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms. Good manual dexterity required
  • Mobility: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use stairs, sit, and kneel. The ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the office and plant is required. Using a computer while sitting for extended periods is common.
  • Strength: No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of 10-20 lbs. of force is required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds if providing training or coverage in the plant.
  • General: Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.

Certificates / Licenses / Permits

  • Occasional travel to vendor sites may be required therefore:
  • Class 5 (or higher) Driver’s License (with acceptable Driver’s Abstract)
  • Ability to travel throughout North America as required (Passport without travel restrictions)
  • Access to an insured vehicle
  • Mobile Equipment Operator and First Aid certification considered an asset

Academic Requirements and Work Experience:
Academic achievements:

  • Completion of the following post-secondary education (or equivalent):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Achievement of any of the following designations (or equivalent) are also desirable:
  • Lean certification
  • Six Sigma certification

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing/assembly environment, preferably within the door and window or consumer goods industry
