Overview of role:
WestJet is currently seeking a dedicated Advisor of Internal Investigations to join the Internal Investigations team. The Internal Investigations team is WestJet’s Designated Recipient for all reports of Harassment and Violence. This Advisor will play a vital role in resolving all occurrences of Harassment and Violence as per legislation under Bill C-65, as well as conducting a variety of other complex, sensitive, or high-risk investigations.
Key Deliverables Include:

Leading the resolution of complex and confidential Workplace Harassment and Violence complaints as well as other high-risk reports by conducting thorough, timely, and fair investigations on internal complaints.

Conducting interviews, gathering and analyzing evidence, assessing credibility, documenting findings, providing recommendations and writing formal investigative reports with determinative findings in accordance with established legal practices, policies, collective agreements and legislation.

Exercising critical thinking, data analysis, rigorous research, and time management processes.

Working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders (Legal, Corporate Security, People Relations, Labour Relations, Business Leaders) and working directly with leaders on early resolution efforts in Negotiated Resolution.

Facilitating conciliation between Principal and Responding parties.

Representing WestJet in a variety of legal settings and participating, defending, and providing testimony to support the outcome of the investigation (e.g., arbitration hearings, Canadian Human Rights Commission).

Keeping abreast of changes to legislation and regulation and remaining informed of all policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines, as well as relevant collective agreements and industry best practices related to Human Rights and Workplace Harassment and Violence.
Experience and Qualifications:
-
Specialized training and experience in conducting high-risk investigations (3-5 years minimum).

Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources, or related field.
-
Specialized training or experience in dispute resolution and/or mediation considered an asset.
-
Knowledge of Human Resources legislation including The Canada Labour Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, and Bill C-65.

Experience working within a unionized environment considered an asset.

Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with all levels within the organization.
-
Good judgement, tact, discretion, and exceptional listening skills.

Proficiency in MS Office
