About the role
As a Senior Specialist in Full-stack Software Engineer, you will operate at a Staff Engineer level: shaping the future of software engineering at CMHC by defining enterprise-wide standards, reusable blueprints, and paved paths that enable teams to build secure, scalable, and maintainable applications. This role is both strategic and technical. You will partner with engineering, platform, and security leaders to establish best practices, lead Communities of Practice, and coach teams in adopting modern approaches. Your influence will extend beyond a single product team — you will help elevate engineering excellence across the enterprise.
What you’ll do:
- Define and drive enterprise software engineering standards for front-end, backend, and full-stack development.
- Build blueprints, templates, and paved paths that teams can adopt with confidence.
- Lead Communities of Practice (CoPs) to promote knowledge sharing and innovation.
- Coach and mentor engineers across teams, advocating for craftsmanship, performance, accessibility, and secure coding.
- Establish testing strategies (unit, integration, E2E, performance, security) and ensure they are embedded in CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate with platform, DevOps, and security teams to embed DevSecOps, observability, and GitOps practices.
- Align engineering approaches with enterprise architecture and compliance frameworks (ITSG-33, OSFI B-13, ITGC).
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor across multiple teams, influencing decisions at scale.
What you should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering or related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience of full-stack engineering experience, with depth in front-end and backend development.
- Expertise in modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular) and backend platforms (Node.js, or .NET Core).
- Strong experience with API-first development (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and microservices.
- Cloud-native skills with Azure (preferred), AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Proven ability to design and integrate CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) and apply GitOps principles.
- Strong knowledge of automated testing (Jest, Playwright, Playwright) and observability practices.
- Demonstrated leadership in coaching, mentoring, and influencing engineering culture across multiple teams.
- Knowledge of secure coding, performance optimization, and accessibility (WCAG).
Technologies you’ll work with:
- Frontend: React, Angular, Vue, Redux, Next.js/Nuxt.js
- Backend: Node.js, .NET Core, Python, Java.
- APIs & Data: REST, GraphQL, gRPC, Kafka, Service Bus.
- Cloud & Infra: Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker.
- CI/CD & Testing: Azure DevOps, Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Postman, Test Containers.
- Security & Observability: OAuth, JWT, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana.
It would be great if you also had:
-
Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and CQRS.
-
Background in serverless computing (Azure Functions, AWS Lambda).
-
Contributions to InnerSource or open-source projects.
-
Experience with progressive web apps (PWAs), multi-brand UI support, and micro-frontends.
Posting closing date: Note, the competition will remain active until filled.
