About the role

Overview:

Reporting to the Director, SRE Business Development & Stakeholder Relations, the Trucking Telematics Program Specialist is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation and maintenance of a trucking telematics program to support the Special Risk Extension (SRE) line of business. The role is accountable for contributing to the development and execution of the long-term strategic vision for the SRE portfolio.

The competitive marketplace and the financial exposure associated to the SRE line of business necessitate a proactive approach to risk management and loss prevention. This will include using trucking carriers’ telematics data to measure and monitor driver performance for the purpose of improving safety and reducing claims.

The Trucking Telematics Program Specialist works in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver a program that uses carriers’ existing technologies and data to measure their performance and report back to them opportunities for improvement and risk mitigation. This will include developing and using analytics tools and reports.

Responsibilities:

Program Development, Research & Implementation

  • Contribute to the development of strategies and policies to hold commercial fleets accountable for maintaining fleet safety programs that meet MPI's insurance requirements and improve road safety.
  • Responsible for identifying what types of data carriers will provide to MPI, and in what formats, quantities and frequencies the data will be provided to MPI.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a repeatable and scalable program to collect, store and analyze large volumes of telematics data for the purpose of providing value-added feedback and performance reports to SRE carrier customers to improve safety and reduce incidents.

Program Analytics, Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Document a process and key outcomes for analyzing the data once received and stored. Analyze data at both a macro level and a customer specific level related to driver performance, behaviours, and compliance to inform underwriting and risk decisions.
  • Collaborate with MPI leaders and the trucking industry to ensure industry best practices are implemented to positively impact safety for commercial fleets in Manitoba.
  • Research external industry trends and innovations, remaining current with new developments and technologies.

Operational Support & Stakeholder Relations

  • Provide SRE carrier customers with timely and accurate insights into their drivers’ and fleet performance with regards to driver behaviours, safety related events, and risks.
  • Assist SRE carrier customers in identifying which drivers, equipment or standards need to be further developed or improved to improve safety and reduce risks.
  • Provide input into the department’s strategic goals to support the corporate vision, in collaboration with the Director, SRE Business Development & Stakeholder Relations.
  • Provide input on the strategy for the profitability and growth of the SRE line of business.
  • Provide market knowledge, data and best practices for the fleet safety and loss prevention team and other strategic projects.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Degree or diploma in business administration, logistics, economics, computer science or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Five years of related experience in the computer sciences, analytics or telematics in trucking, logistics or an insurance environment is required.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of transportation management systems, electronic log device (ELD) systems, and/or truck OEM telematics.
  • Excellent computer skills combined with proficiency of relevant computer programs - Knowledge of visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, R).
  • Data literacy to identify and leverage relevant data when providing recommendations, or analyzing issues.
  • Advance interpersonal and communication skills to engage, present, influence, and inspire stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment and build positive working relationships.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Candidates must have access to a personal vehicle.
  • The position may be required to drive to and from off-site locations.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to travel.
