Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As a Quality Engineering Lead, you will define and implement test strategies, automation frameworks, and quality governance models to ensure the reliability and performance of Vancity’s digital platforms. You’ll lead a team of quality engineers, foster a shift-left testing culture, and collaborate across product, engineering, and DevOps teams to deliver exceptional member experiences. We’re looking for a seasoned leader with deep technical expertise and a passion for driving quality at scale.
This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at Vancity head office. Our head office is based in Vancouver, but we are open to candidates in BC and Ontario. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands when needed.
How You'll Make an Impact:
Quality Strategy & Planning
- Defining and implementing the overall test strategy, governance model, and quality framework for projects and programs
- Collaborating with product and engineering leaders to align quality objectives with business goals
- Developing and managing master test plans, test schedules, and resource plans across multiple parallel workstreams
- Establishing metrics and KPIs (e.g., defect density, automation coverage, test cycle time)
- Generating and presenting detailed reports on testing activities, quality metrics, and project status to stakeholders
Team Leadership
- Leading, mentoring, and coaching QA/QE engineers in automation, performance, and exploratory testing
- Conducting code and test reviews to maintain high standards
- Identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies to minimize impact on product quality
- Fostering a “shift-left” testing culture by encouraging early involvement in the SDLC
Automation & Tools
- Architecting and maintaining scalable automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or custom solutions)
- Integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Evaluating and implementing tools for API testing, performance testing, and monitoring
Quality Advocacy
- Partnering with developers to promote testability and maintainability
- Collaborating with DevOps and release engineering to ensure smooth deployments
- Leading root cause analyses for production issues and implementing preventive measures
Hands-On Testing
- Designing and executing test plans for complex features or systems
- Identifying, documenting, and tracking defects, and working with development teams to resolve them
- Conducting performance, security, and regression testing where needed
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- 10+ years of experience in quality engineering, software testing, or a related field within the financial industry
- Minimum 3+ years of prior experience in a leadership or managerial role. Proven ability to manage teams, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively across functions
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in test automation, scripting (Python, JavaScript, Java), and CI/CD; experience with pipelines and tools such as Jenkins or GitLab
- Testing Frameworks: Hands-on experience with modern tools like Cypress, Playwright, TestNG, or Postman
- Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with AWS or Azure, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure testing
- Analytical Mindset: Data-driven approach to measuring and improving quality; ability to measure effectiveness through audits, retrospectives, and improvement plans
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to identify issues, analyze data, and develop effective solutions with the ability to convey complex messages clearly

What You’ll Earn:
This role offers a salary range of $91,000 to $136,400 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
