How You Will Contribute The Packet-Optical HW Development team is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative designer to join the hardware quality and life cycle management team working on Ciena’s Packet Optical platform products.
You will be part of a team of hardware designers working on improving production hardware and supporting sustaining of 6500 and Waveserver products
- Collaborate with the quality team to debug and mitigate hardware field issues.
- Investigate systemic failures observed in the field and work cross-functionally to develop mitigation strategies.
- Support manufacturing product and test teams in debug of systemic issues and analyzing product failures.
- Supporting test engineering in factory test process improvements
- Factory test liaison for systemic test issues and process change implementation
- Conduct research and qualification of alternate components for component obsolescence and dual-source activities.
- Responsible for HW PCB design and implementation to support cost reduction initiatives.
- Execute hardware verification plans and debug prototype hardware using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic/network analyzers, protocol/signal generators etc.
- Debug and support hardware investigations.
- Modify circuit packs to enable testing or to fix issues uncovered during testing
- Research design alternatives if component availability issues arise
- Complete timing analysis and simulation of critical interfaces
- Circuit design and schematic capture
The Must Haves
- Electrical Engineering program or equivalent
- Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential
- The candidate must have initiative, enthusiasm and a desire to learn
- Familiarity with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and test sets) and measurement techniques would be beneficial
- Familiar with electrical engineering fundamentals including R/C/L/Diode/FET
- Understanding of low voltage power regulators such as LDO and switch-mode power supplies
- Knowledge of design and validation requirements for low-speed and high-speed digital interfaces: I2C/PMBus, SPI, JTAG, PCIe, Ethernet (SGMII, RMII), DDR Memory
Assets
- Experience designing and debugging hardware
- Experience with Cadence PCB schematic capture and layout tools
Pay Range The annual pay range for this position is $49,500-99,000
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
