THE OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU

Reporting to the League Specialist, the League Coordinator supports the development and implementation of the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer Adult Hockey Leagues, as well as the Youth Spring Hockey League. Once these leagues are established, the League Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and carrying out all necessary administrative and clerical tasks to ensure smooth league operations. Additionally, the League Coordinator plays an active role in planning and executing special events hosted by the Hockey League, including tournaments and championships.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

League Operations and Administration

  • Assist with preparing team playing schedules and tournament draws.

  • Collect all team/player registrations and fees according to payment deadlines and policies.

  • Manage daily league administration tasks, including printing game sheets, updating standings and statistics, database entry, and interpreting the league rulebook.

  • Maintain timely and accurate league records.

  • Handle grievance procedures and other administrative issues.

  • Assist with surveying and evaluating leagues to recommend improvements to league management.

  • Assist the League Specialist with assessing, communicating, and enforcing team and player suspensions.

  • Generate reports related to timekeeping and league operations.

Communication and Liaison

  • Act as a direct liaison between management, team representatives, and players to resolve problems and communicate information.
  • Liaise with Facilities and Event Delivery to ensure timely communication.
  • Liaise with Food and Beverage to maximize participant engagement.
  • Attend department meetings as required.
  • Establish good communications with teams and participants to help create a fun and safe environment.

Customer Service and Support

  • Provide excellent, timely customer service to teams, players, and visitors.
  • Promote a welcoming and positive environment.
  • Answer inquiries professionally and promptly.
  • Look for and suggest creative ways to enhance customer experience.
  • Assist with front desk clerical duties, including answering phones, updating rink schedules, distributing keys, and general customer inquiries.
  • Schedule and assist in recruiting and training support personnel such as Timekeepers and Referees.
  • Provide updates and evaluations of refereeing staff, including collecting game reports from officials.
  • Provide constructive feedback on on- and off-ice officials to the League Specialist.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to problems or trends to improve situations.

Performs other duties as defined and assigned by the League Specialist as required.

Note: This is a casual position, hours will be based upon operational requirement.

Wage: $16.45 - $26.03

Requirements

WHAT IT TAKES

Education and Experience

  • Working toward a certificate or diploma in the field of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation studies or equivalent area of study is an asset
  • 0-2 years of related experience in the delivery of sport and recreation programming, administration, or league operations (preferably ice hockey).
  • Experience in cash handling and basic accounting procedures is an asset.
  • Experience in a computerized environment with practical knowledge of databases, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, etc. is an asset.
  • Experience, as a hockey player, coach, or referee is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the rules of hockey;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive customer relations.
  • Ability to identify problems and test alternative solutions to achieve the best outcome.
  • Possess proper judgment and critical thinking skills as well as the ability to calmly and effectively deal with conflict and provide timely and appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to understand and apply the current Hockey Canada and applicable league rules.
  • Ability to understand and effectively manage multiple customer needs and demands.

Other

  • The successful candidate must also possess and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRC)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification an asset.
