Business Intelligence Systems Technician – Alberta reporting to Information & Reporting Manager – Alberta is based in Sherwood Park. The Business Intelligence Systems Technician is responsible for development, implementation, configuration, and administration of the technical and operational solutions for our business intelligence systems and platforms. This role effectively resolves gaps discovered within day-to-day business operations to ensure operational efficiency. Aspects of the position are knowledge transfer, training, facilitation, communication, and continuous improvement of service delivery provided by the Information & Reporting team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with business users to gather requirements, define business needs, and translate them into functional specifications for BI solutions and its implementation into the BI platforms.
  • Implementation of optimized processes from opportunities discovered through analysis of existing business processes and data flows on our BI platform.
  • Documentation of functional specifications, development and implementation of business solutions.
  • Assess, assign and coordinate business user support and service requests for prioritization.
  • Facilitate communication by organizing meetings, setting agendas, and transcribing and distributing of meeting.
  • Develop, implement and maintain SharePoint team sites, forms, apps, libraries, and content to support internal and external business operations.
  • Support the administration and configuration of the Cognos environment to enable seamless access for business users on the Cognos and Resource Center portals.
  • Fulfill migrations and scheduling requests of BI reports within the Cognos and Resource Center portals.
  • Build test plans and test cases to verify that business requirements are accurately met.
  • Create training material and conduct training sessions to empower business users on new systems or tools.
  • Monitor BI system performance and regularly implement enhancements to address evolving business needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in corporate BI analytics best practices through ongoing education.
  • Interpret business requirements to evaluate and recommend effective BI solutions.
  • Develop metrics, dashboards, and applications to monitor the BI systems performance and artifacts effectively.
  • Project management key initiatives for the Information & Reporting team and business users.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on BI tools, ensuring they can effectively utilize the systems to access insights and generate reports.
  • Recommend strategic improvements to enhance functional and business processes.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Non-business day or work hours may be required to support emerging business needs.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • IT Certification, Diploma, Degree or equivalent is required.
  • Business Analyst certification or equivalent is an asset.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in functional analysis, implementation and process improvement.
  • 5-7 years of IT service delivery with focus on service desk intake, analysis, troubleshooting, problem solving, communication, documentation, and process improvement skills.
  • 1-3 years of data analysis experience implementing and/or utilizing data repositories, data warehousing, and business intelligence tools.
  • Familiarity with database management and basic programming concepts.
  • Project co-ordination or management experience is an asset.
  • SharePoint site, page and library administration experience is required.
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) is an asset.
  • Fluent in English with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is required.
  • Fluent in French with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is an asset.
  • Successful completion of a credit check, criminal background check, education verification, and employment reference checks is required before employment.
