Job Description
Based in Vancouver, the Senior Investment Accountant is responsible for timely, complete, and accurate accounting, valuation, and financial reporting of Real Estate Debt investments. The Senior Investment Accountant works directly with the Valuations, Legal, FP&A, and Taxation teams to complete financial and performance reporting tasks for various stakeholders. The Senior Investment Accountant may also be responsible for completing daily bookkeeping activities from time to time.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in quarterly and annual financial statements, including financial statement disclosures (and working paper files), in accordance with policies and established standards.
- Responds to and supports inquiries from cross-functional departments, clients, and auditors.
- Involved with monthly and annual income allocation and distribution for limited partnerships, trusts, and pooled investment portfolios.
- Assists with preparation of quarterly return calculations and analysis to support management reporting.
- Prepares quarterly valuation adjustment reasonability analysis.
- Assists with preparation of investor materials such as capital call/distribution notices, capital account statements and quarterly reporting packages.
- Adherence to financial controls and procedures to ensure all aspects of accounting, valuation, and reporting meet established policies.
- Assists with other assigned tasks and special projects as needed.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Obtained CPA designation or in the final stages of the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
- Minimum 3-4 years of financial reporting experience
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and IFRS Reporting Standards
- Strong critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational skills, with great attention to detail and eagerness to learn
- Fund accounting experience in real estate funds or private equity, or Big 4 experience with a focus on investment funds, is preferred.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word and other Microsoft suite of products
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate key themes and messages to both internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with Yardi ERP is an asset
- Knowledge of PowerBI is an asset
The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $ 85,000 - $95,000. The actual salary offered will take into consideration a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the individual’s skill, experience, education and training, the market compensation of the role, and the consideration to internal equity.
