About the role
Tomlinson is looking for a Construction Lead Hand to work with our residential operations. This individual will work under the supervision of a foreman. The Lead Hand will oversee all landscape construction services on residential sites, monitor work and ensure quality of onsite tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ability to read construction drawings and pull information to set proper grades
-
Proficient with the operating of a rotating laser level and be able to work with GPS would be a great asset
-
Installation of stakes as required for layout purposes
-
Measures distances from reference points to locate boundaries of construction site
-
Ability to work in and implement safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment
-
Operate and train staff on mini-excavators and skid steers
-
Supervision of the lay out, assembly and installation of various materials in consultation with foreman or superintendent according to schedule for field installation.
-
Coordinating and leading daily activities for team of 3 to 5 people.
-
Responsible for establishing a safe work environment that complies with Health & Safety program.
-
Following the project plans and schedules and ensuring that the crew’s daily and weekly activities meet production goals.

Assist in ordering through dispatching the proper equipment, materials and workforce for the following days' activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-
5+ years experience in Landscape Construction with understanding of principals and best practices.
-
Lead Hand experience for 6+ years.
-
Experience working with installation of retaining walls, interlocking or patio stones is considered an asset.
-
Post Secondary in related field or equivalent experience in landscape construction considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
-
Work on a construction site.
-
Must be able to walk long distances and do any groundwork essentials to the completion of the contract.
-
Lifting heavy objects in construction of hardscapes.
-
Long hours required, night and weekend work required, on call after hours in case of jobsite emergencies.
-
Exposure to all elements – snow, cold, rain, heat etc.
COMPENSATION INFORMATION:
The expected wage for this position is $36.00 - $39.00 per hour. Placement within this range is dependent on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
