About the role
Overview:
Adastra is seeking a Gen AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade chatbot and knowledge automation solutions using Azure OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services, and related cloud technologies. In this role, you will help transform client knowledge assets into intelligent conversational systems that deliver accurate, context-aware insights through natural language interactions.
Location: Vancouver, BC (Remote)
Status: Contract
Responsibilities:
Requirements & Data Preparation
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to define chatbot use cases, user flows, and data needs.
- Prepare, clean, and ingest client knowledge base content into Azure Blob Storage.
- Use Azure Document Intelligence and OpenAI Embeddings to extract, vectorize, and index data for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines.
Backend & API Development
- Develop chatbot backends using Adastra’s Ask Your Data Framework.
- Build secure, scalable APIs for conversation handling, chat history, and contextual filters.
- Provide integration guidelines and endpoints for client-facing applications.
Prompt Engineering & Workflow Design
- Create dynamic prompt flows leveraging Azure OpenAI LLMs to enhance context and relevance.
- Implement RAG workflows and logic for follow-up recontextualization.
Architecture & Solution Design
- Design end-to-end Azure-based architectures aligned with best practices for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
- Produce clear technical documentation, diagrams, and integration guidelines.
Testing & Knowledge Transfer
- Conduct unit and functional testing for reliability and performance.
- Support cost optimization for deployment.
- Deliver documentation and client knowledge transfer sessions for maintainability.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or related field.
- 3+ years’ experience developing AI solutions with LLMs and NLP.
- Proficient in Python, Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Cosmos DB, and Azure Storage.
- Experience with RAG pipelines, vector databases, and prompt engineering.
- Solid grasp of RESTful or GraphQL API development.
- Familiar with MLOps, DevOps, and Azure architectural best practices.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
