The Opportunity:
The Senior Accountant (6-Month Contract, with Possibility of Extension) plays an important role in supporting the finance function for JY Care’s group of companies. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a hands-on role focused on day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and providing insights that support effective business decisions.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with manufacturing or product-based experience who enjoys taking ownership of the details while contributing to the accuracy and reliability of financial information across the organization.
A Day in the Life - Role & Responsibilities:
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Manage the month-end close process and prepare accurate financial statements.
- Maintain general ledger accuracy, reconcile accounts, and oversee AP/AR transactions.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, inventory valuation, and gross margins.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including tracking budget versus actual performance.
- Support cash flow tracking and working capital management.
- Provide timely and accurate financial reports and analysis to support decision-making.
Compliance & Taxation
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns and assist with corporate tax filings.
- Support the year-end close process and collaborate with external accountants on SR&ED, review, and compilation engagements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
Process Improvement & Support
- Identify and evaluate government grants, incentives, and funding opportunities to support business initiatives.
- Recommend process improvements and strengthen internal controls.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the CEO and operations team to ensure financial accuracy and transparency.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- CPA designation (or working toward completion) preferred.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing or multi-entity environment.
- Strong technical accounting skills with experience managing reconciliations, reporting, and month-end close.
- Working knowledge of ASPE, corporate tax, and GST/HST.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with NetSuite (or similar ERP system).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
