Chief Technology Officer

Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Senior Level
Full-Time

About the role

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is one of Canada’s leading full-service law firms, with a national platform spanning Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa, and a reputation for delivering innovative, high-value legal solutions to clients across North America and globally. With a strong culture rooted in excellence, collaboration and client service, BLG is increasingly harnessing technology, data and artificial intelligence to shape the future of legal services.

BLG is now seeking a Chief Technology Officer to play a defining role in its continued evolution as a digitally enabled, AI-powered and data-driven firm. Reporting to the Managing Partner & CEO, the CTO will set and execute an enterprise-wide technology, data and AI strategy aligned to the firm’s ambitions for growth, innovation and client impact.

This is a rare opportunity to join the executive leadership team of a national market leader and translate significant recent investments in technology into tangible business value. The CTO will oversee a well-established and highly tenured national IT function, leading efforts to modernize architecture, strengthen data governance, simplify a complex application environment and embed AI across legal and business workflows. The mandate is both strategic and operational: to define a clear multi-year roadmap, enhance cybersecurity and risk management capabilities, and accelerate enterprise adoption of digital tools to unlock productivity and differentiation.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned, enterprise-scale technology leader with deep expertise across digital transformation, data and AI. They will bring a track record of delivering complex change, building credibility with senior stakeholders and translating technical capability into practical, measurable outcomes. Equally important will be the ability to lead within a partnership environment, combining influence, pragmatism and strong communication skills to drive alignment and cultural adoption across a diverse national organization.

This role calls for a leader with both vision and discipline: someone who can articulate the “art of the possible” while ensuring rigorous execution, governance and security. Experience leading AI strategies and responsible AI frameworks, coupled with strong data architecture and governance expertise, will be critical in enabling the firm’s next phase of growth.

BLG offers a compelling platform for impact—where technology is central to client service innovation, and where the CTO will have the mandate, visibility and support to shape the future of one of Canada’s most respected professional services organizations.
