Position Description

PSYCHOMETRIST POSITION - ANCHOR CLINIC

The Hospital for Sick Children serves a diverse population of patients and families by offering holistic, comprehensive services across a wide range of clinical specialties. Empowering children and families' lives through excellence, innovation, understanding, and hope, the SickKids Department of Psychology is a respected leader in Precision Child Health. Integrating clinical care, research and education, through an equity-focused and inclusive lens, SickKids Psychology supports the generation of new knowledge and evidence, educates the next generation of specialized Psychologists, and effectively helps address the complex developmental, medical, and psychosocial needs of children and youth being treated for primary medical and psychiatric conditions at SickKids.

SickKids Psychology is currently recruiting a Psychometrist who will work under the direction and supervision of a registered Psychologist with specialization in clinical neuropsychology. This position will support the newly developed ANCHOR clinic (Access to Neuropsychological Care for High-Risk Outpatient Referrals), a general neuropsychology clinic, located within the Department of Psychology. Responsibilities associated with this role will align with the ANCHOR clinic's mission to expand equitable access to neuropsychological care for children and families who have historically encountered barriers to service, while enhancing outcomes for children with complex medical needs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, scoring, and management of neuropsychological assessment data for children and adolescents (ages 3'18) followed by eligible medical clinics at SickKids. This role requires specialized expertise in standardized neuropsychological test administration, as well as experience working with children and youth presenting with a variety of conditions that affect brain and child development, including but not limited to infectious diseases (e.g., congenital cytomegalovirus), auto-immune and neuroinflammatory diseases (e.g., lupus), craniofacial conditions (e.g., cleft lip/palate), neurological and neurogenetic conditions, and other congenital conditions.

Here's What You'll Get to Do

• Work within a fast-paced environment; assist in managing, triaging, and assessing a varied caseload under specific required timelines within a child and family centred approach to care.
• Assist in managing/updating wait lists or in contacting families to send and gather online questionnaires.
• Under the direction of the neuropsychologist, carry out comprehensive neuropsychological assessments to understand a child's cognitive, behavioural, and social-emotional functioning while considering his/her/their neurodevelopmental and medical/neurological histories.
• Administer and score developmental, cognitive, and neuropsychological assessment measures.
• Observe and report on relevant patient behaviour during test sessions and adapting interactions as necessary to work successfully with patient.
• Assist in the education/training of clinical trainees with neuropsychological testing and scoring.
• Keep up to date with new tests or versions of tests as they become available.
• Manage databases and ensuring complete and accurate records are kept for future reference, program evaluation, and quality assurance.
• Support departmental education and contributing to departmental function by serving on committees, mentoring new employees, attending departmental meetings.
• Participate in ongoing and emerging clinical projects as required.
• Ensure that hospital administrative policy and privacy requirements are adhered to.

Here's What You'll Need

• Master's degree in psychology (Bachelor's degree in psychology with relevant clinical experience may be considered).
• Previous neuropsychological testing and assessment experience with children/adolescents with wide ranging presentations. The candidate should feel confident working with neurodiverse and neurodivergent children and families managing complex medical conditions and experiences.
• Superior critical thinking, organizational and time management skills, and highly attentive to detail.
• Ability to use observational skills to identify issues beyond test scores.
• Solid experience with databases (e.g., Excel, REDCap) and proficiency in the use of electronic platforms such as Microsoft Office, hospital documentation systems, and other relevant technology is a strong asset.
• Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communications.
• Sound judgement, diplomacy, and tact, in interacting with a diverse population.
• Knowledge and experience with crisis prevention and intervention models.
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve, work independently and collaboratively with members of a large interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge in culturally competent practice, and appropriate understanding of the importance of health equity, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of healthcare services.
• Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.
• Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills.
• Social sensitivity, diplomacy, and relationship-building / management.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent psychosocial development and psychopathology; ability to manage challenging behaviour and motivate children and adolescents.
• Ability to multi-task, be flexible and adaptable to changing program demands.
• Proficiency in French and experience administering French neuropsychological assessment measures is an asset.

• 3-Year Contract position (0.6 - 1.0 FTE), with modified benefits
