IT System Support Technician

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director, Information & Technology, the IT Systems Support Technician provides technical support to our students and staff. This involves responding to requests for IT assistance from staff and students, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and providing solutions for various applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides technical support to the Help Desk, monitoring the IT ticket queue to handle requests or distribute issues as needed, and assists staff and students with both hardware and software issues
  • In collaboration with the IT team, image, deploy, update, repair, and retire endpoint devices, printers, and peripherals; keep all equipment classroom-ready
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures, and asset management records
  • Ensures that the Equipment Database is kept up-to-date with all new acquisitions, deployment and repair/maintenance status of equipment in use at all campuses
  • Partner with vendors and external providers to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, maintaining high standards of service and reliability
  • Provides technical support for all school events, including configuring and supporting AV systems and assisting with all extracurricular and after-hours technology needs
  • Support and help maintain Google Workspace, Microsoft Azure, VMware, and server systems to ensure a secure and reliable technology environment
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of network devices, including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and VoIP systems
  • Responsible for the full Audio Visual and technical setup of all school events, including after-hour requirements
  • Participates as a member of the larger IT Department to assist with technology-related tasks such as staff onboarding, preparing images for the next school year, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Post secondary education in a related field and 2-3 years experience in a similar role
  • Has strong knowledge of Google Workspace, Apple OS, academic systems platforms, device management solutions, and mobile device management (MDM) systems
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with a proactive, solution-focused approach, demonstrating persistence in identifying and resolving technical issues promptly and effectively
  • Strong understanding of network services, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
  • Displays a high degree of confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment that strengthens a positive, inclusive school culture
  • Proven strength in fostering respectful, responsive, and professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues, ensuring a service-oriented approach in all interactions
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

The York School is a co-educational JK to Grade 12 Independent School located in the heart of Toronto. The York School was founded in 1965 and is the first school in Canada accredited to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) from Junior Kindergarten to university entrance.

The York School has two campuses. The Junior School (JK - Grade 5) is located at 1639 Yonge Street. The Middle (Grades 6 - 8) and Senior Schools (Grades 9 - 12) are located at 1320 Yonge Street.
