The Network Infrastructure and Communications Specialist role at Lakehead University supports the installation and maintenance of network infrastructure, including connectivity for phones, and multimedia services, across the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses. This role is critical to ensuring daily operations run smoothly and involves providing customized customer service to faculty, staff, and students by resolving system issues and managing data.
Responsibilities
- Organize and execute network infrastructure installations and maintenance
- Plan, schedule, and allocate resources for TSC projects
- Purchase products, prepare quotes, and manage inventory
- Security camera installation and configuration
- UPS installation and maintenance
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair telephony systems
- Manage phone extensions and access to emergency service numbers
- Maintain copper and fiber cabling infrastructure
- Oversee budget codes and billing
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for installations, service, and support
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in communications technology or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience in telecommunications and network infrastructure installation.
- 2 years of experience in project planning and development.
- Experience with enterprise-level IP telephony systems
- Experience in purchasing and inventory management
- Experience working with various types of communication infrastructure
- Strong understanding of networking principles and communications infrastructure
- Knowledge of safety standards, including WHMIS and fall arrest protocols.
