Reporting to the Manager, IT Core, the System Administrator supports a wide array of servers, network, and critical solutions through the Medavie Health Services group of companies. The position plays a key role in the design, planning, documentation, budgeting and building of both contract and critical contract applications and highly available solutions. This position requires strong technical, quality assurance, analytical, documentation and relationship skills, time management, multitasking, process orientation and an inquisitive ‘can do’ attitude.
In this role you will be responsible for the following. responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, electronically using remote support tools. Performing server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly. Creating and managing automated business systems based on stakeholders needs using different corporately approved technologies. Managing the internal document sharing platform and ensuring proper security measures are in place. Providing Tier 2/3 support to operational systems including troubleshooting user issues, software configuration and upgrades. Diagnosing and resolving software, hardware, and networking problems. Modifying commercial programs/software/hardware and customize them for internal needs. Purchasing equipment and software through approved vendors. Assisting staff with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of Laptop and Desktop computers, Printers, peripheral equipment, and software. Designing, implementing, and supporting of Microsoft Azure, O365, update management & other Azure features and all other duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications & Competencies
- Have successfully completed a post-secondary education, preferably in the computer science, information technology or have the equivalent experience.
- Possess a minimum of five years experience in the IT industry, in a System Administrator or equivalent capacity with four to five year’s experience administering Windows workstations and servers.
- Posses the certification as MCS or willing to work towards.
- Posses A+ Certification (or equivalent on the job training experience).
- Have additional training in IT and Computer Aided Dispatch systems which would be an asset.
- Have knowledge of incident tracking applications such as Cherwell is considered an asset.
- Possess the ability to organize and manage distributed servers, understanding of TCP/IP and other LAN/WAN expertise.
- Understand MS Office Suite software, TCP/IP networking, Internet, and firewall technologies as well as databases and database administration including Microsoft SQL server.
- Posses experience in cloud computing as well as experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management.
- Possess knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
- Have a strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of explaining simple procedures in writing or verbally, has good phone skills.
- Have knowledge of Excel and how to manipulate data for reporting.
- Possess superb collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Have advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to identify issues and root causes with resolution implementation.
- Possess excellent organizational and time-management skills.
