Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Project Health and Safety Specialist to provide intermediate level safety consulting services in support of the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant construction project (NSWWTP). This position will be based out of the client’s North Vancouver site, in association with Stantec’s Burnaby, British Columbia location. The role will report to the Team Leader of Stantec’s OHS and Industrial Hygiene Advisory team.
The H&S Specialist will verify that key health and safety systems, programs, and processes are developed and effectively implemented/documented for the project, both in the office space and on the construction worksite. The successful candidate will verify an active monitoring process is in place to drive timely completion of key activities for the project, identify deviations or exceptions from expected performance, and communicate results to the client construction team and leadership. The Project Health and Safety Specialist will be familiar with all project plans, project specifications, applicable laws and regulations related to safety.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provides HS guidance and support to the client project team for Project Office and Site activities
- Develops/Maintains project office and site safety plans for the client team
- Ensures project team are up to date on health and safety training/orientations
- Collects and addresses safety concerns from the client Project team
- Participates in joint site safety reviews with Constructor (site walks)
- Participates in periodic audits/reviews of the Constructor safety programs
- Liaison with Constructor to maintain project safety statistics, retain incident reports, and arrange safety incident reviews
- Liaises with client MV Corporate Safety to ensure project is meeting internal standards, as required.
- Review monthly safety submissions, monitor and collate key performance indicators (KPIs), and prepare reports for client leadership
- Develop and assign responsibility for completing corrective actions to remedy identified root causes from the investigation reports
- Review and provide comments on incident investigation reports and corrective actions
- Conduct jobsite audits to verify compliance with OH&S requirements
- Attend Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Hygiene Advisory meetings (e.g., bi-weekly, monthly, etc.) as required
- Perform Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Hygiene Advisory core tasks (e.g., updating team schedule, forecasting, attending training, submitting timesheets and expenses, etc.)
- Implement and monitor Stantec’s risk management strategy tools (e.g., HSSE plan, etc.). while working on site
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Certified by, or working towards, a recognized certification by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals and/or have the National Construction Safety Officer Certification.
- Knowledge and experience applying regulatory and safety requirements.
- Experience in implementing fieldwork programs.
- Experience with emergency response.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain organized and responsive to adaptive fieldwork programs and client reporting requirements.
- Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software
Education And Experience
- A degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field is preferred.
- 5-8 years of experience of relevant industrial or construction field safety experience.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 86,900.00 - Max Salary $ 126,000.00
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
