About the role
Welcome Home!
We’re more than Canada’s largest independent hardware and building supplies retailer—we’re part of communities across the nation.
Drive Data Behind Every Successful Store Transition.
As the Data Migration Specialist, you will play a key role in translating data from legacy Dealer systems into PRISM by executing data cleansing, preparation, and migration activities aligned to defined mapping specifications. You will ensure data is accurately transformed, validated, and ready for use at go-live, while supporting cutover execution, rollback readiness, and issue resolution.
This role requires a strong understanding of how data behaves across systems, combined with a disciplined, process-driven approach to execution. Reporting to the Manager, Dealer Success & Business Development, this opportunity is ideal for someone who can navigate complexity, ask the right questions, and ensure data integrity throughout the migration process.
Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here’s how:
- Execute data migration runs from legacy Dealer systems into PRISM using approved mapping specifications and transformation rules provided by the Functional Analyst.
- Perform data profiling and cleansing activities, including formatting, de-duplication, normalization, and required field completion, to improve load success and reduce downstream defects.
- Prepare and manage migration inputs, including extract files, templates, and load-ready datasets, ensuring correct versioning, secure handling, and traceability by store and wave.
- Run migration rehearsals and mock conversions in lower environments, capturing results, exceptions, and reconciliation outputs for Functional Analyst review and sign-off.
- Support cutover execution and rollback readiness by maintaining migration runbooks, checklists, sequencing, and go/no-go validation steps to minimize downtime at go-live.
- Validate migration outcomes using defined reconciliation checks, including record counts, key field verification, sampling, and exception reporting, and escalate variances to the appropriate teams.
- Coordinate issue triage during migration windows by logging defects, documenting reproducible steps, re-running loads where required, and tracking items through to resolution.
- Support post-go-live stabilization by addressing migration-related data issues quickly, including reloads, corrections, and follow-up loads, and ensuring final migration artifacts are handed over for ongoing support.
We’re looking for:
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is an asset.
- Five to seven years of progressive experience in data migration, data operations, systems implementation, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of data migration concepts, including how data is structured, transformed, and behaves across systems, with the ability to identify risks and challenges in data conversion.
- Experience interpreting and applying data mapping specifications and transformation logic, with the ability to validate how data from one system translates into another.
- Strong data quality and validation skills, including performing reconciliation checks (record counts, key field validation, sampling, and exception handling) and identifying issues quickly.
- Experience executing repeatable data migration activities, following runbooks and structured processes, and working effectively within cutover timelines.
- Strong technical data handling skills, including working with structured data files (e.g., CSV/flat files), formatting, normalization, and maintaining clean, traceable datasets.
- Proven problem-solving and issue triage skills, with the ability to diagnose data or load issues, document defects clearly, and collaborate with technical teams to resolve and re-run migrations.
- Strong attention to detail and process discipline, with the ability to follow defined procedures while identifying gaps and improving migration readiness.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to ask the right questions, escalate risks early, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including Functional Analysts, Dealer Success, and technical teams.
- Understanding of retail operations and store systems is an asset, with the ability to connect data structures to real-world store processes and impacts.
- Flexibility to accommodate after hours and weekend work, as needed.
- The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
