Position Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Supportive Roommate to support our individual with complex needs in a full-time residential role. The individual you will be supporting has been diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The individual can complete most daily living tasks independently, however, will require support around food and meal planning. The successful candidate will begin with respite care and eventually transition into a full-time live-in role.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will provide both emotional and practical support. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with daily living tasks such as personal hygiene reminders, cleaning, and organizing his living space.
- Preparing meals and supporting with all food related tasks.
- Monitoring food intake.
- Monitoring medication and ensuring appointments are booked and attended.
- Driving or accompanying the individual to medical appointments and community outings.
- Supporting the individual in maintaining routines and engaging in meaningful activities.
- Participating in regular team meetings and collaborating with wraparound service providers.
About You the Requirements:
- Home: Candidates must be willing to discuss minor home modifications, such as locks on pantries, fridge, etc. This would be further discussed with the right candidate.
- Location: NW or NE preferred
- Availability: The individual attends Community Access on weekdays, with additional respite available on weeknights and weekends.
- Living Arrangement: Private bedroom and bathroom preferred on the same level as other residents.
- Household: No small children
- Experience: The successful candidate needs to be knowledgeable about Prader-Willi Syndrome.
Rate of Pay: The contract is pending final confirmation, but the monthly pay is estimated to be $3500, though this will be confirmed and will likely be higher.
During the initial transition period, the candidate will provide respite care at a rate of $22.41 per hour. The number of hours and schedule will be later confirmed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field or Disability Sector
- Must have valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
- Provide Home insurance and Commercial Liability insurance
- One to two years relevant experience in the human services field
- Intermediate in computer skills
- Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
- Willing to make appropriate modifications for the individual’s access requirements in the home
- Home visit & assessment required
Preferred Requirements:
- Previous experience working with seniors would be an asset
- Previously trained in and have experience with medication administration
- Other current and relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
- Additional training requirements may include Mental Health
