About the Opportunity
Our client is an established Canadian transportation provider whose logistics and solutions division designs customized freight and supply chain programs for importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.
The division manages cargo from origin and port or airport arrival through final delivery, combining ocean and air freight with drayage, transloading, warehousing, kitting, road transportation, rail or intermodal, and final-mile services.
To support growth, we are seeking a solutions-focused Business Development Manager who understands the complete supply chain and is fluent in English and Mandarin.
The Role
The Business Development Manager will uncover client challenges, develop integrated logistics solutions, present commercial proposals, and close new business. Strong knowledge of ocean and air freight and North American container handling is essential.
The ideal candidate is a consultative, solutions-based sales professional who can translate a client's supply chain needs into a practical commercial proposal, close complex opportunities, and coordinate a smooth handoff to operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop new business with importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and other organizations requiring integrated logistics support Build and manage a qualified sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, referrals, and targeted account development Conduct discovery meetings to understand freight flows, service challenges, cost pressures, and growth plans Design and sell solutions spanning ocean and air freight, drayage, transloading, warehousing, kitting, road, rail or intermodal, and final-mile delivery Communicate in English and Mandarin with clients, prospects, overseas contacts, and supply chain partners Prepare proposals, quotations, presentations, RFP responses, and value-focused business cases Collaborate with operations, pricing, warehousing, carriers, and freight-forwarding partners to build executable solutions Negotiate commercial terms, close business, and achieve revenue, margin, and account-growth targets Support account implementation and maintain accurate sales activity, forecasts, pipeline data, and account plans
Qualifications
Professional fluency in spoken and written English and Mandarin is mandatory; Cantonese is an asset Proven sales or business development experience in freight forwarding, 3PL, transportation, or supply chain services Strong international-freight knowledge, particularly ocean freight and air freight Practical knowledge of container flow after arrival, including drayage, devanning, transloading, and warehousing Ability to design and explain end-to-end supply chain solutions across multiple modes and providers Consultative selling approach focused on diagnosing needs rather than quoting individual freight rates Track record of generating business, managing a pipeline, negotiating, and closing complex opportunities Strong relationship-building, presentation, organizational, and commercial skills; relevant education is preferred
