Initial Reporting Location: Tom Davies Square

Job Status: Limited Regular Part Time Position

Estimated Probable Duration: Seven (7) Months (may be extended)

Number of Vacancies: 1

Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Inside Unit

Hours of Work: Up to 48 hours bi-weekly

Shift Work Required: No

Range of Pay: Group 6 - $27.20 to $31.98 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process. Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of the Director of Corporate Security and By-Law Services and the day-to-day direction of the Licensing Officer.

  • Process and issue business, taxi, limousine, and shuttle licenses.
  • Maintain a data base for business, taxi, limousine, and shuttle licenses.
  • Review lottery license report forms filed by license holders to ensure compliance with Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario policies and regulations and City of Greater Sudbury’s (CGS’s) Lottery Licensing By-law; advise license holders of any reporting deficiencies.
  • Prepare a report of licenses issued, including revenues, on a monthly basis.
  • Respond to By-Law/Licensing inquiries from the general public, including disputed parking tickets.
  • Issue identification cards (e.g., taxi, shuttle, limo, trades people, CGS employees, etc.).
  • Prepare web content and maintain the section’s web page.
  • Assist other secretarial/clerical staff with their duties during periods of overload, vacation, or absence and perform miscellaneous typing and other related duties as required.
  • Perform the duties of the Licensing Enforcement Officer during periods of overload, vacation, or absence.
  • Summarize and balance deposits from licensing fees from Animal Control Officer contractor and issuing agents.
  • Maintain filing system for the section. Maintain computer lists and records for all licenses and registrations. Notify owners of due date for renewals.
  • Order job-specific office supplies.
  • Administer taxi, shuttle, and limousine driver tests and mark same as required.
  • Gather documentation for legal proceedings: attend as a witness for CGS trials related to licensing issues as required.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a secondary school (grade XII) education.
  • Over one (1) year up to and including two and one-half (2½) years of related experience.
  • Satisfactory keyboarding skills (40 words per minute).
  • Demonstrate and proven ability related to computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (i.e., files maintenance, word processing, computerized spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval).
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal and written skills an asset.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
