Job Description
You will be required to perform technical tasks in structural engineering, including determining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations and technical design, performing computer analysis, developing drawing layouts and construction details. Secondary tasks include conducting design studies, attending existing facilities for data collection and assessments, attending construction site for field inspection reviews, and drafting reports.
Responsibilities
- 25-30% time required for travels (continuous, one week at a time) to client facility near Kamloops
- Candidates must be comfortable in working at live operating facilities, prior field working experience is strongly preferred.
- Must adhere to all SDE and Client safety management plans and protocols at all times.
- Conducting tool-based and visual inspections of various steels at client facilities, including but not limited to various steel platforms, walkways, staircases, gratings, beams, bracing, cantilevers, etc.
- Generation of repair designs and reports using inspection data, pictures, and measurements collected from the site
- Ongoing construction support by responding to client RFIs in a timely fashion.
- Working closely and collaboratively with other engineers, designers, clients and other members of the project team to ensure reports are completed efficiently and with high-quality
- Proactively looking for opportunities to improve workflow processes, to improve on efficiencies, quality and other aspects of the program.
- Maintain open transparent communication with all members of the project team to ensure all potential risks are identified early and proactively mitigated.
Qualifications
Technical
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Structural (Civil) Engineering from an accredited university.
- Registered, or eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer with ‘Engineers and Geoscientists of BC’.
- Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience in heavy industry sectors, particularly mining, within Canada.
- Alternatively, minimum 7 years of experience in commercial or light industry sectors within Canada.
- Experience and proficiency in engineering to Canadian building codes and standards, including: NBCC, CSA/S16, CSA/A23, and CSA/S304.
General:
- Strong professional standards, with proficiency in structural theory and practice.
- Organizational skills, with effective communication and coordination with team.
- Proficient communication in oral English, written presentation, technical sketching
- Multi-tasking with ability to work to schedules and budgets.
- Able to travel to client sites for data collection and construction review.
Optional:
- Additional experience appreciated in American building codes and standards, including: IBC, ASCE-7, AISC/360, ACI/318, and ACI/530.
