The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Learning Specialist (K-12) in the Indigenous Learning team at the Education Centre in Airdrie commencing August 27, 2026 to June 30, 2030. This position will be under the guidance of the Director of Indigenous Learning. The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as this position requires travel between RVS sites.
RVS seeks an experienced individual who possesses strong understanding and practices in the inclusion of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and Ways of Knowing and Being.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting leaders and teachers in implementing effective and sustainable decolonized and indigenized practices
- Supporting teachers with the implementation of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into daily practice
- Working collaboratively to support building division-wide capacity in greater understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being and teaching historical, social, economic, and political implications of colonization of Indigenous Peoples and residential schools
- Working collaboratively with a variety of community and educational partners, including community Elders and Knowledge Keepers
- Supporting schools to build and sustain relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, families, and community members
- Supporting schools with culturally relevant programming to support the success and well-being of Indigenous students
- Supporting the learning experiences of K-12 students by identifying, selecting, and creating high quality, culturally responsive resources which accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength, diversity, and worldviews of Indigenous Peoples
- Developing and facilitating professional learning which helps teachers and leaders to develop and apply foundational knowledge about Indigenous Peoples for the benefit of all students
- Planning and leading professional learning sessions as required including working extensively in schools through small group professional learning, in-class demonstration and modeling, coaching and mentoring
- Supporting in the design and initiation of division-wide projects, workshops, events, and/or celebrations (e.g., National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, National Indigenous Peoples Day, culture camps, pow-wows) which develop innovative and creative programming to meet the individual needs of multiple schools
- Utilizing sound foundational knowledge, current research, engagement with community members, and authentic understanding of the experience, history, protocols, and cultures of diverse Indigenous Peoples to support staff in creating accessible, engaging, culturally responsive, and authentic learning opportunities for all students.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to work across kindergarten through Grade 12 learning environments
- Collaborate as part of a team to help support leaders and teachers to design and implement inclusive instruction and assessment practices including social emotional learning and academics
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Support schools with curriculum implementation
- Commitment to understand Indigenizing and decolonizing practices
- Ability to proficiently use a variety of technology platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
- Proven methods of supporting students who are self-identified as Indigenous using a strengths-based approach and inclusive model
The successful candidate must:

Have a minimum of 5 years recent classroom experience

Be comfortable working with staff and students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in inclusive education settings

Be familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides, Board Strategic Plan, Divisional Education Plan

Collaborate with other Learning Specialists to support staff in creating accessible, engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students

Have experience leading a learning community influencing growth of practice

Have an understanding of the policies and procedures that guide teaching and learning (Provincial and jurisdictional)
Pre-employment Requirements
- Applicants must possess or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate. To be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate, you must have applied for initial certification with Alberta Education at
- New/Recent Graduates Only: In lieu of a reference letter, please submit your final practicum.
- Applicants must provide a professional letter of reference, attached to the job application from their most recent supervisor, relevant to the job opportunity, written on company letterhead, signed, and dated within the past 18 months; or a list of updated references of a current/recent supervisor on your application
