As an Indigenous teacher, you will have an understanding of Indigenous Culture, traditional learning methods and successful classroom experiences supporting Indigenous learners in K-12 curriculum. Proven ability to cultivate positive relationships with Indigenous students. Proven leadership in integrating authentic Indigenous Resources and materials in to the curriculum. Experience with advocacy for Indigenous students within the school setting. Experience working with teachers and support staff in a collaborative wholistic approach consistent with the Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement. Experience establishing and building trusting relationships and maintaining clear, open communication between school and Indigenous families and communities. The successful candidate will work collaborating and strategically with school and program staff to enhance successful transitions of Indigenous learners. Itinerant position within Family of Schools model as determined by Director of Indigenous Education.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Education (Elementary / Middle / Secondary) degree, or academic equivalent training.
  • A valid Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate, or in progress
  • A major program concentration in the areas of primary and intermediate education
  • A primary and intermediate methodology course
  • Consistent with the HUMAN RIGHTS CODE, Aboriginal Ancestry is a bona fide occupational requirement for this position
  • Must be qualified to teach Aboriginal education
  • Or equivalent training, or experience

PLEASE NOTE

  • The starting annual salary for this School Teacher position ranges from $59,711 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
