What This Position is About:

Fleming College is seeking a professional and forward-thinking leader to oversee our Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences programs: https://flemingcollege.ca/school/environmental-and-natural-resource-sciences. You will work with a diverse team to deliver an innovative and progressive learning experience that is valued by students, and prepares them for real world careers in the future.

Reporting to the Dean, School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences ¿SENRS¿, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the School leadership team, faculty and staff, and provide academic leadership and management of the ¿SENRS¿ portfolio¿s day to day academic operations in alignment with the College¿s Strategic Plan. The Chair provides leadership in academic processes, including new program development, program review, quality assurance, and curriculum revision and renewal, ensuring a focus on the needs of students and employers in the labour market. The Chair contributes to the development of the School budget and multi-year capital plan and funding proposals managed by the Dean. The Chair participates in Program Advisory Committee meetings led by the Dean and assists with the implementation of outcomes. The Chair recruits, supervises, and develops full-time and contract faculty and provides leadership and direction of faculty workload assignments. Through exemplary leadership, engagement, and mentoring, the Chair models the values of responsiveness, innovation, collaboration, inclusiveness and accountability that are inherent in the Strategic plan. The Chair participates in various cross-College committees. In collaboration with the Dean, seeks out, and fosters partnerships with industry, the community and other educational institutions and supports funded projects.

Through proactive planning, flexibility, and transparency, you will model the College values inherent in our core promise to students and foster a sustainable, supportive and safe learning community as you work collaboratively with the Dean and internal and external stakeholder groups to develop and implement the School¿s business plan within the College¿s academic planning processes.
Work Schedules:

This position has been designated as on-campus and is expected on-site 100% of the time.

What We Are Looking For:

As our ideal candidate you have conferred a Masters Degree in a relevant discipline to the School, preferably Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences.

A minimum of seven (7) years of work experience:

  • Academic leadership combined with professional experience in the above field or discipline
  • Relevant post-secondary teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience guiding, developing and coaching employees, facilitating change, ensuring employee engagement, mediating/resolving conflict, and inspiring and influencing a high performance team
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and foster a collegial, collaborative work environment and empower direct reports
  • Deep commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion & belonging with experience in promoting a respectful and inclusive workplace environment
  • Experience supervising professional staff within a unionized environment
  • Strong understanding of the process of teaching & learning, with experience in curriculum design, development, and delivery at the post-secondary level as well as knowledge of learning design and innovative teaching and learning strategies
  • Experience developing and administering complex budgets, with strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Superior communication (both verbal and written) and listening skills
  • Proven experience developing creative solutions to complex problems, with evidence of strong decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to be nimble and problem solve operational challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Experience in recruiting and hiring and workload development
  • Strategic and innovative thinker with the ability to connect the big picture to operations and working towards the future needs of employers
  • Solid understanding of the disciplines and programs within SENRS.
