Director, Municipal Engagement
The Advisory Services and Municipal Relations Branch is seeking a talented and innovative individual to join the team as the Director. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will make a significant contribution to; and be a key member of a dynamic team of professionals supporting the Ministry of Government Relations’ formal relationship with its municipal sector partners and delivering municipal administration and technical assistance to over 700 rural and urban municipalities in the province. As part of the branch’s management team, you will be a leader with a personal management style exemplified by respect, accountability, and empowerment.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing and recommending strategic options to the ministry senior leaders regarding the maintenance and enhancement of provincial-municipal relations as the ministry consults on, develops, and implements municipal programs, services, and legislation.
- Lead integrated case management to ensure appropriate client-centred connections are made internally and externally for municipalities that build trust, comprehensive government responses, and accurate guidance.
- Lead development and/or provide technical expertise to the preparation of cabinet submissions, legislation, regulations, briefings and referrals to ensure government actions and direction is lawful, in the public interest, and aligned with the practical application to municipal operations while respecting the autonomy of local governments.
- Operational development and management of a branch team and its initiatives that seek to build and maintain a positive provincial-municipal relationship, while actively supporting the ministry’s broader goals and objectives.
- Developing and implementing programs and services that build the administrative capacity of municipal governments in so they can more effectively lead and make critical, technical, administrative, and policy decisions affecting the sustainability of their communities.
- Represent the ministry in inter-ministry working groups and intersectoral groups assigned responsibility to develop/evaluate programs and services that may impact the sector, that require technical advice or insight from the branch.
- Direct the research work of a staff team on emerging municipal issues related to governance, and administration issues.
- Lead the development and delivery of technical training to local elected officials and senior staff related to procedural fairness, public transparency, legislation, roles and responsibilities, and ethics.
