About the role

About the Opportunity An PE-backed, mid-market commercial real estate owner-operator with a diversified portfolio concentrated in retail and mixed-use assets across Canada and the United States. The organization has an active M&A mandate — and is positioned for continued platform growth through further acquisitions. They are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join the executive leadership team and help drive the next chapter of that growth.

This is a high-impact role for a finance leader who understands the pace and discipline of a private equity environment, is comfortable with complex deal structures, and brings the cross-border fluency to operate seamlessly across Canadian and U.S. market

The Role The CFO will serve as the senior financial authority for the organization, partnering closely with the CEO, Board, and PE sponsors to shape capital strategy, lead transaction execution, and ensure financial integrity across all operations. A key part of this mandate will be supporting ongoing M&A activity — including acquisitions at the platform level — as well as navigating investment structures involving minority ownership positions and minority co-investors.

Key Responsibilities Serve as a strategic financial partner to the PE ownership group, including long-range financial planning, capital allocation, and risk management M&A activity — due diligence, financial modelling, debt and equity financing, and post-acquisition integration Support and manage financial matters related to minority ownership and co-investment structures, including reporting obligations, governance requirements, and investor communications for non-controlling positions Oversee financial reporting and controls across a cross-border portfolio, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS / US GAAP) and regulatory requirements in both Canada and the United States Manage banking relationships, debt facilities, and capital markets activity, including the structuring of acquisition and development financing Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team Provide portfolio-level financial analysis and asset-level performance reporting to PE sponsors, lenders, and investment partners Support investor relations and any future capital-raising or recapitalization initiatives Implement and continuously improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls appropriate to a growing PE-backed platform

Qualifications CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree an asset Minimum 7 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role Experience in a private equity-backed environment — understanding the reporting cadence, return metrics, and ownership dynamics of a PE-sponsored platform is essential Deep expertise in commercial real estate finance, with demonstrated experience in retail and/or mixed-use assets strongly preferred Proven track record in M&A transactions from origination through close and integration at the mid-market level, including familiarity with minority ownership structures and co-investment arrangements Meaningful cross-border experience operating across Canadian and U.S. markets, including familiarity with cross-border entity structures and regulatory environments Strong command of real estate financial concepts including asset valuation, debt structuring, IRR/NPV analysis, and waterfall modelling Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage confidently at the Board and sponsor level Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, deal-oriented environment
