Permanent Full-Time Registered Practical Nurse- Ambulatory Services
About the role
The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following position: Permanent Full-Time Registered Practical Nurse- Ambulatory Services The RPN-Ambulatory Services works collaboratively as an active member of the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic patient and family-centered care in infusion therapy, wound care and telemedicine services. The RPN systematically and continuously collects and assesses data related to patient health status to develop, execute and evaluate the plan of care and utilizes evidence to drive clinical decisions and practice related to individual and population health. The RPN- establishes goals and strategies for meeting care coordination needs across settings with the patient, family, and/or other care providers.
Responsibilities
- Maintains CNO Standards of Practice
- Participates in ongoing evaluation of client/family needs
- Collaborates with client/family to ensure their safety
- Provides health teaching to the clients and their families
- Transcribes and carries out physicians orders
- Performs wound dressings, wound packing as per policy, suture and/or staple removal
- Administers IV meds as per CNO guidelines and DRHC policies and Procedures
- Initiates, maintains, and discontinues IV therapy
- Documents pertinent information to ensure continuity of patient care and to meet legal requirements
- Maintains the Best "customer relations" by responding to client/family needs in an open, honest and timely manner
- Facilitates virtual telemedicine appointments
- Ensures that their practice and conduct meet legislative requirements of the profession and is in accord with the Policy and Procedures of DRHC
- Functions as a preceptor for students and helps orientate new staff to the department
- Collaborates with physicians regarding patient care plan
Requirements
- Current Certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current CPR
- Knowledge of Emergency Room procedures preferred
- Advanced wound care preferred
- Demonstration of strong nursing practice, skill and judgment
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including superior verbal communication abilities
- Demonstrated critical thinking, leadership and mentoring skills
- Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Dryden Regional Health Centre's Code of Conduct and Standards of Behaviour
- Proven attendance record
- Able to perform the essential duties of the job
- Willing to work flexible hours, including days, evenings and weekends
- Demonstrates DRHC Core Values; Accountability, Integrity, Humility, Compassion and Respect
- Proof of COVID vaccination to be presented prior to hire
This is a union position. Compensation will be as per the Collective Agreement starting at $36.55/hr. We are a 42 bed full service Regional Health Centre located in the family friendly city of Dryden, Ontario. We are powered by 300 highly engaged staff and everyone here understands their contribution to health care and the patient experience. Our leadership team, board of directors and physicians work well together to achieve full accreditation status; manage our finances and forecast the changing the needs of our catchment region.
Our hospital features a 24/7/365 ER department supported by on site Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Services; 16 physicians support all aspects of local health care delivery including General Surgery, Oncology, Fracture Clinic, Primary Care, Emergency Medicine and much more. We have maintained a balanced budget for over 15 years through prudent fiscal management and partnering with the local and broader community for capital fundraising efforts.
