Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Job Description

The City of Mission is seeking a dedicated and community-minded individual to join our team as a Bylaw Patroller – Community Response on a time-durated part-time basis. This position plays a vital role in promoting public safety, supporting local businesses, and engaging respectfully with vulnerable populations. Through proactive patrols, public education, and bylaw enforcement, you will contribute to fostering a safe, inclusive, and thriving community.

In this role, you will conduct visible patrols in business hubs and public spaces, respond to calls for service, and build positive relationships with residents, businesses, and community partners. You will also provide outreach and connect vulnerable individuals with appropriate services, educate the public on bylaws to encourage voluntary compliance, and enforce regulations through warnings and fines when necessary. Collaboration with RCMP, community agencies, and outreach teams will be an important part of the position, as will accurate documentation of patrols, incidents, and enforcement activities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have completed Grade 12 along with the Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills (Level 1 required; Level 2 an asset) program through the Justice Institute of BC, supplemented by Naloxone training. A minimum of one year of municipal bylaw enforcement experience, and training or familiarity with trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches is required. A Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED certificate, along with a valid BC Driver’s License, is mandatory. Applicants must also be able to successfully pass a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check. Strong communication, de-escalation, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and perform regular outdoor patrols in all weather conditions.

The current hourly rate of pay for a Bylaw Patroller – Community Response is $40.66 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits. Employees in this position must be available for various shifts between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm including evenings, weekends and some statutory holidays. Typical shifts are anticipated to be Friday to Monday. We anticipate this position to go until December 31, 2025 with possible extension, subject to funding.
